First cafe project bike '74 CB360. I need help!!!

I recently rescued this baby from a junkyard she was headed to be sold as scrap!! To my luck i came across her and even though i had my mind set on buying an old bonnie, I think it was meant to be.

I originally was buying a cage trailer from the guy and i ended up getting this bike for free.

Mechanically she seams Ok , but cosmetically a lot of work has to be done in order to get to her to what i know she will turn into. I have some previous experience in motorcycles mechanic since i used to do motocross as a kid, but im completely lost on the the way to deal with cosmetics.

There is some surface rust on the frame. What would be the best way to deal with this? I am going to paint the frame in black again.

The spokes are completely rusted. Where can i buy replacement spokes? Or will it be better and cheaper to replace the whole rims? Im planing to paint the rims in a gold (i'll post a picture if the color after)

And last (for now) I'm looking to paint some parts of the motor in matte black. What type of paint should i use?

PS: Please dont be discouraged to reply because of the bad shape she is in i have already put some hours of work on her :-\ . But these are the only pics i have of her now.

Do you have a title for the bike? If not, you should probably start investigating that before you spend any money on it (not much point restoring a bike if you can't register / ride it on the road).

Does it run? That's the next thing you should try and get happening. Again you don't want to sink $$$ into cosmetic stuff only to find you have to spend another bunch of $$$ on a blown motor.

Someone once told me "there's no such thing as a free bike". I've yet to prove them wrong.

All very good advice, I will add that once you tackle all of that, clean it up and get it into ride-able condition first. Then ride it for a while before hacking it up and making it yours. You may very well find out why it got parked in the first place.

GOOGLE is your friend, ask it your questions and see what others have given answers, this and other forums will turn up in your searches. I use google at least 20 times a day because I am always running into something that I don't know a thing about or I have forgotten WTF it was I should know.

+1, Google answers my questions about EVERYTHING on a daily basis ;D

Hillsy,

Regarding the title i should be getting it within a couple of days.

I have already started working on the engine, which seems to be in good condition. I have already pulled out the carbs and bought a carb kit for it (the jets were clogged), which i should get in the next few days along with a ignition switch which i didnt have a key for and a petcock valve which was broken.

I am not starting to work on the cosmetics yet but i am trying to figure out the paint costs so i can estimate how much $$$ i will have to sink in the cosmetics.

I definitely agree with you that there is no such thing as a free bike, i knew i would have to sink some money in to sort out the title and such, which would end up being my "cost" from the bike. I have also spent a good amount of money at this guys business, so the bike was sort of a part of a bundle deal per se.

Never used one myself, but rarely heard good things. The main complaint I've heard is that many of the parts don't fit well (or sometimes at all).

Try to reuse the jets and needle if you can. Keyster kits are known to not be quite correct on needle taper and jet size.

Are keyster kits the ones that are $30 for both carbs on ebay?

Well that sucks. That's what I ordered earlier this week. I guess I'll just do as you suggested and try to reuse the needles/jets.

The gaskets, the float needles and valves are good. The boal gaskets take a trick to get them in place but other than that they do work just try to use the stock jets.

Somewhere online, I think on jets r us web site, is a picture of what a STOCK Keihin jet looks like with a marking, Keyster has a marking as well, if your stuff has been rebuilt with a keyster kit before you will be able to tell.

Not saying don't use them, just be suspect of them and inspect visualy as best you can the jets and the needles before you change them out. They might be fine, they might be way off.

Frogman,

Unfortunately i did buy the keyster kit. I only need to use the secondary main jet which is completely clogged and it was so corroded that when I removed it i messed up the head of the screw.

check the springs on the air/fuel mix needles. Heres an old post I made...
