First startup of the year FAIL!!

My riding permit expired in May so i didn't think to start up my CB450 'til this past saturday. As for my first attempt to start it, i realized the battery had died so it recharged it with a battery maintainer. after 10 mins or so, i attempted to start it again. This time, i got it to start...so i gave the throttle a little twist and as soon as i did, i felt a spray of fluid on my left leg. I looked down to see gasoline spurting from my carbs!(i believe it may be from my carb float bowl). I'm afraid that the gasoline may have gotten into my engine. i haven't tried starting it again since. anyone have any clue what happened internally? bad carbs? something i shoulda done first before putting it away last fall?
 
Were the drain screws open?

And I don't think a little dry gas is bad on an engine. But there's only one way to find out.
 
Did you use fuel stabilizer? The ethanol in gas today will kill your carbs if not. I'm sure if you didn't he inside of your carbs are probably full of corrosion.
 
Gasoline in an engine thins the oil out so it doesn't do what it is supposed to do. A little, like a half cup or less, will just evaporate once the engine comes up to temp. More ruins the engine when you try to run it.

You have stuck floats, they will do that if you either left the carbs full of fuel when you parked it OR its been sitting really LONG. Pull the bowls and do a quick inspection. If they move now then it may be possible to start over without cleaning them.

Take the battery out of the bike and charge it FULLY, like overnight if your charger has a float option, if not then charge at 2 amps or less for around 8 hours checking on the battery every couple to make sure it is not over heating. Bike batteries don't like to be run flat or allowed to discharge completly, Good chance it is done for.

And if it has been since last year that you've ridden it, change the oil anyway.
