First time cafe racer from IL

Been Around the Block
Like the topic says this is my first stab at customizing a "cafe racer" type bike. These are also my first vintage street bikes. I picked up a 74' (blue one) and 76' (orange one) Suzuki GT250 this week from different owners. Both run, but only one has a title. I hope to combine the two together to make a real nice cruiser for around town. I love the idea of riding a two-smoker on the street. Ill start a thread once i get some work done. I just have to figure out what i want to keep and what i want to swap between the two.

Oh, and someone enlighten me on what exactly "Do The Ton" refers to?

A ton is 100. 100mph.

Welcome to the site.

Nice bikes you're onto a winner with those...

One even has a knee dent, so you are already on the way to a cafe racer!

Ahhh gotcha, thanks for the insight Brother man.

Ya i like the Blue tank better, and it has way less rust. I was trying to figure out how to get the dent out, then i was like wait a minute, it just needs a matching one on the other side. ;D

Thanks Von! Im pretty pumped about them. Wasnt sure how a 6' 4" 200 lber would fit on them, but its actually not too bad at all. I think the tanks are generally the same shape. But the more and more i look at them they start to look different, might be the graphics throwing me off though. They do have different petcock set ups though.
 
Quite a few cosmetic and engine design differences through the GT250 range, Love the strokers, the sound and the smell of burning 2 stroke lives with you for ever.

Not the fastest of bikes when up against the likes of the RD250, but could still hit around 90 two up on a long stetch of straight road.
 
They are great bikes I have 3 T20's the Super Six or Hustler depending on where you live. Super reliable very quick and loads of fun to ride, a little porting and a set of chambers and you will see a big difference in performance. Good luck enjoy!

Oh for sure! Ive been ridding/racing motorcycles in one way or another since i was 8, im now 25, and i think i have two stroke oil in my blood! Love the smell! And i have noticed quite a few differences between the two years. The 76' rips compared to the 74'. Good thing the 76' has less miles on the clock, and the 74' is the one that has the title. Engine swap!

Ive got a set of chambers in the works right now, and ive got the porting specs. Prolly wont get around to porting until it needs a rebuild though.... Thanks for the props everyone! Cant wait to get this thing on the road next spring!
 
Check the frame and engine numbers before you try an engine-swap. Back then, a lot of bikes were titled off the engine numbers instead of the frame numbers. I had one, so I speak from experience.
