Flange vs allen vs hex

I'm putting together a shopping list for all the hardware on my cb360. Sometimes the manual calls for flange bolts and other times hex bolts.

My thought was to originally replace most/all fasteners with stainless allen bolts. Does anyone know if this would cause issues? Is there a reason why flange or hex bolts are specifically called out?

For example: the cylinder head calls for flange bolts (near sparkplugs) and allen bolts (carb mounts)

Thanks in advance

I can't speak specifically to the CB360, but in general, the flanged bolts hav more surface area to spread the load over a wider area. Hex Head Caps Screws have less area, though washers can alleviate some of this.

Aluminum will creep out from under a bolt head if the force is too high. Side cases don't need a lot of force, but head bolts do. A flanged bolt make sure that at the proper torque, the aluminum won't have too much force and cause the tension in the bolt to reduce...
