Cool idea!

You may want to redo the video and call it an iPod Shuffle... not a Nano... nit-pickin' I know ;)

Throw in a bar mount for a Nano or Shuffle and that's a winner with the cruiser crowd for sure!

i clip it on to the bag strap. super easy, your right though about the ipod i did call it the wrng name! good looking out!

I built something similar for my VTX1800R...housed it in a windshield bag.  Put a volume control in line with it also that velcroes to the outside of the bag, and an LED on/off switch on the front to control the amp.

it's actually of a 1980 Harley FLH. I modified the FLH brackets and used some memphis shades fork clamps to mount it. fits perfect and works with my fatty t-bars. Here is another shot of the fairing

so sick! dude i am actualy in the process of doing this for my dads herritage classic.... he wants a full fairing with stereo and crap... any pics of how you mounted it up or can i see the insides? man i am really diggin that! just sent him pics of your scoot! he wants me to get more info on how you did it... he just told me to add that to my list of stuff to do

There is no inner fairing on my bike. It is basically just an outer batwing fairing...which is how the old fairings were. They sold a box that housed a stereo that you could mount to the fairing brackets, but it is fugly. I bought a universal stereo kit off a fellow VTXer, and used the bag to house the electronics. I actually mounted the power amp in the tool box under the seat of the bike. The old style FLH fairings had brackets that mounted to the forks and those brackets held the wildshield also. The outer fairing is held to the brackets with 4 bolts and can be removed seperate of the brackets. the width was perfect for the VTX forks. I had a memphis fats shield at one time, but removed it when I installed my apes (yes....I have an addiction to customizing my motorcycles! LOL) The fork clamps worked perfect to mount the FLH fairing brackets to the bike. I drilled the harley mounts out slightly to reuse the memphis bolt/collar setup, and actually drilled a new bottom mounting hole to get the angle of the fairing right. I used the original bottom hole to mount my Kuryakyn silver bullet LED's to. I also designed a Harley-to-VTX headlight adapter and had a friend cut it on his CNC. This allowed me to mount a more traditional 7" fatboy headlight to the bike that fit the fairing better than the VTX one. The benefit for me going this route, was I paid $130 for the complete old fairing and brackets....versus the $1400 that they wanted for a fairing specific to the VTX. The money I saved paid for a set of hardbags and all the paint and powdercoat work. The bike is stashed away at the moment, but I will be out there this weekend dropping of a 78 XS650 Standard that I am picking up, and can take some pictures then. Here is a fairing like I used on ebay right now:

You can see the mounts for the fairing better in these pics:

The trick is to watch local swap meets or craigslist and see if there is one local for sale. I found mine on craigslist and bought it for much cheaper than some go for on ebay.

One more shot of the way you SHOULD set that heritage up =)

Billy Bob's Customs was my side business working on motorcycles for a while. Built many different VTX's, a few harleys, and accouple other jap cruisers. Now I do it for fun on my own scoots and do work for friends for beer. With a wife and son, the time just isn't there to make a real go at it. My Hotrod-Bagger X was the last big project I completed before my son was born, and that will soon be for sale. Either picking up a new Honda Fury, or a suzuki M109 to do up next. I'll get you some pictures this weekend, but if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll answer to the best of my knowledge!

THANKS MAN!!!! that is basicly what i was planning but i want all the radio and crap in it for him... ooh i agree on your style on the heritage! but it is for dad, his shoulders can not handle big apes, nor does he want them... he was going to get the road glide but i told him that we can make whatever he needs... he knows that he built more choppers than anyone i know!
i rock big apes on my Harley... best bars made!

i got a fella i use as well, can get bars real cheap made to spec any way you want then i will powder them or chrome them... let me know what your looking for i am sure we can do somehting...

Looks sick man. We have similar tastes. I am not a big fan of chrome on my scoot. the black accents the candy red paint better. I am going to be needing bars for my 78 at some point. probably 18"ers. I will definately give you a shout when I am ready!!

hey man i posted a pic of your VTX to show my buddy your fairing.. i hope you do not mind... I let him know that you did the work and gave him a rough idea how you did it... he just wanted to see what it looked like

Not yet. Probably soon though. getting to the point of polishing the case covers. Haven't ever polished shit before, so it should be interesting. Anything I didn't want looking like dull aluminum in the past I had PC'd ;D

So - I hope this comes off as genuinely curious vs. snarky or something, but - what's the appeal of ape hangers? Is it purely an aesthetic thing? They look really uncomfortable to me, I've just never understood them. As far as aesthetics go everybody's got their own style, so I got no beef with people who dig it, I just... man, I just don't get em : )

Well they're great to hang your jacket on and not have to worry about burning against hot pipes!

I like 'em.

I originally wanted the look. But the feel is awesome! I road to sturgis in 2005 rockin my 20" apes. Road straight thru 650 miles with no fatigue beyond normal wear and tear doing 85 down the freeway. the cops in sturgis loved me too. >:( Got pulled over 3 times near Rapid City in a matter of 30 minutes. Minnesota does not have a handlebar law...but SD has a shoulder height law. BS for sure. My 20's were about even with the top of my head.
