What did your front end and wheels come from?
Sweet bike, I do wonder about clearance though, especially under the exhaust....
damn....nice tires too

The forks are 96 ZX7R and the front wheel is from a ZX9. THe clearance of the pipes is truely a concern but in that pic its even more deceiving in that the driveway is sloped so the bike is closer to the ground then if it were sitting on flat land. I am going to make some new pipes but this was in the garage at the time.

Very cool!! 8) 8)

Other than the ground clearance issues, how does she run??

Beter than i hoped actually. its nice having "modern" suspension and tires on the road.

What did you do regading your exhaust? OR you didnt have clearance issues?

Regarding your exhaust......

It appears that there's a typical cloverleaf, four tube collector right under the engine. Eliminating that may take care of the worst of your clearance problems. Take it to your fabricator (unless it's you...) and have the collector repositioned in the open gap under the swing arm pivot. Turn it 90* and then route to your muffler of choice. The longer primaries will only help to broaden the powerband of that brute too so double goodness!

Great bike!

the fabricator is me LOL. Yeah the collector is the culprit of all my space issues so moving it sounds like a great idea.

What kind of swingarm is that? Did you fab it up or is that from something else?
In the short term, unless it'll make the bike twitchy....though looking at the rake on the front I doubt it, you could swing those chain adjuster eccentrics so that the rear axle is on the bottom...that'll raise the rear of the bike a bit and perhaps give a smidge more clearance untill you can come to a good solution.

Since it appears that nobod yhas asked yet....how's it ride?

The swingarm is from a ZRX1200 and i had it powdercoated black. The eccentrics do not affect ride height just length. As far as the ride the bike rides great. Its nice to have "modern" suspension on the bike.

If the axle is physically lower it has to affect the ride height to some extent.
From the look of them, you'd gain around an inch at the rear.....

Damn...that...thing...turned...out...awesome! Do you have a build thread somewhere? Still working on my KZ and would love to see how you did certain things. Great work and good luck with the last details...i know how these things are!

unfortunatley i found this site after i finished the bike so no build thread but if you have questions i would be glad to answer them as best as i can .

Ya, my bike has a '04 ZX10R front end on it. It must be a little longer than the ZX7 that you have. I haven't had an issue there.

It really does transform the handling of the bike, doesn't it?! Not to mention the added stopping power!! :o :o :D

My frame has been raked and braced as per the old Superbike specs back in the 80's. With all the mods and upgrades, she stops, turns and handles like a dream!

The only thing I'd love now is more HP and a retro paint scheme like yours! 8)

Regarding the clearance issues you have. You could also go with a 4 into 2, into 1 design with the header. This would eliminate the bulky 4 pipe collector.

In any case, enjoy it! It's a cool ride! 8)

Drewski, and chance you could measure your forks from top to center or axle. Would be nice to know what lengths are.

Will do! ;D

It'll take me a couple of days to get back to you, 'cause I don't have the bike here with me at the moment! :-\

Great looking bike! Looking to do something similar to the 78' I just purchased. What triple trees did you use? Did you run into any issue with bearing/race issues?

Originally i was using the 96 triples that came with the front end that i bought. But i stripped one of the bolts and ended up maching a 95 upper triple to fit the 96-03 front end. Using all Kawasaki parts really hindered this build, i think in the future for the next project i am going to use GSXR parts since they are abundant and cheap but mostly abundant. Actually early gsxr stuff especially the air/oil cooled front ends are very close to the Kawasaki ones so i suspect there is less to do. But its the rear ends from early Suzukis that really shine. Since early suzuki frames are basically have the same dimensions at the swingarm pivot as the kawasaki so you could just bolt entire rear ends in to your bike. Just my .00000000000002 cents worth or opinion. :)

Sorry for the long delay!! :-\

My ZX10R forks measure 28" from top of the triple to the centre of the axle, at rest on the rear paddock stand. I trust that helps! :D

I'm running 17" wheels, BTW.
