Gauging interest for hard-tails...

id say 250 with it raw keeps you in the market that is sea of hardtails in various forms of quality. and the service you describe couple with a you-tube video would give people the confidence to buy. if it makes it look like a easy enuf project. thats definatly somthing the other guys dont offer
 
I fully agree with my94f2. One for a Yamaha XS would be outstanding! I even have a frame I would be more than willing to part with. How about a discount on the hardtail if I supply a Yammie 650 frame?
 
the xs already has g&l choppers weld on
tc brothers has one
kansas coustoms has one
ardcore has a hardtail service
and i dont know if that hack black widow choppers still has a business or not.
yoou have a lot of compition in the xs market. check their sites for pricing
 
g&l's is about the best lookin one. plus if you have a "parts" bike you can buy the whole frame with a title ;D

I did a Google search and had a look at the G&L product. DCC's hardtail is a much better design. I would be anxious doing business with someone who took such little care in their website. That's just me.

The TC Bro's is not the best design either because they leave the tubes open at the end. I get why they do that because it's easier to fabricate, but there are other solutions.

I could not find any of the other ones. The shitty thing about craftsmanship is that it's expensive. As a culture, we're conditioned to buy on price. Sometimes it floors people when the see the price of craftsmanship. These are just my opinions.

100% agree, i have no problem paying for quality... if not you have to deal with redoing crap over and over and it get more and more $$$$

tc bros now comes with plugged end caps, just saw one on chopper underground. they only offer a 3'' stretch.
i aggree with g&l being the best looking one and i love the axel plates on it.
ardcore does good work too, and has a varity of styles and will work with you but they wont do anything but a service or a complete frame build.
kansas looks ok.. it is beefy looking when installed. i have seen lots of these built and havent heard of any complaints from any cept for the black widow chopper guy.
and who is dcc?
 
Ya know what I really want...not a huge thread-jump I promise........

I want a swing arm for the CB450/500T that looks like a hardtail. Something that'll bolt into the swingarm pivot, maybe a 4" stretch with a small mono-shock that could be hidden under a tank or just under a solo seat. Really only needs a couple inches of suspension travel and hell...I can make the shock if Fox doesn't have one in the catalog that'd work. It'd take something with the basic dimensions of a bicycle shock (think mountainbike) but obviously beefier to account for weight etc.

A kat could simply grind off the rear "sub-frame", weld on the top mount for the shock and a loop for the solo seat. The swingarm would have to drop down at the base of the pivot so it'd look more like a hardtail but that shouldn't be all that difficult to fab-up.

You know....in a perfect world..... 8)

Seriously though, mono-shock conversions/replacement swingarms are on the list. It all takes time though boys... Trust us, we'll get there.

Heh...no, been working on it on the side for a few weeks for a customer bike.
The trick is integrating the lower arms of the swinger visually with the frame at the pivot. It's pretty easy to whip out something that mechanically fits the bill....another totally to do so and make it look right....

UPDATE guys..

The CB450 tail/frame should be ready later this week for photos. I'll be sure to post them up as soon as it's back from powder coat. Tearing the bike back down this weekend was a real joy. It's close...and I can't wait to ride it. ;)

After talking some things over with a few individuals a bit more seasoned we've decided to revisit the delivery mechanism and cost structure of the tails. For the first few tails we will most likely have frames shipped into us for the modifications and then send them back out complete.

This gives us the ability to Q/C everything ensuring that the product running around the streets is both safe and aesthetically sound which will ultimately benefit all involved in the transaction as well as the community. More to come soon..

is that an option? i would be intrested in something like that where i can send you a frame and get it backed hard tailed... that would be dope as hell!

It is...this is the approach ChoppaHead uses and has done very well with it. The cost to ship a frame to and fro' isn't that much when you consider the time vs. money aspect.

As a client you know that you will be receiving the best possible product available direct from the source complete ready and waiting to have your gear simply bolted into it. This opens up a lot of possibilities for those out there who cannot/do not want to do the fab side of things.

For us, as the manufacturer as I noted prior, it allows us to Q/C everything ensuring maximum safety and aesthetic control over the final product which will ultimately carry the DCC brand further allowing us to continue to grow and expand into other areas clients ask of us.

....that said, there's three people in line and as of this morning, a fourth I believe. :)

Another possibility that I think would be cool would be a plunger style rear frame section.
Something to think on....
