General Fuel Tank Question

On smaller bikes like a CB175, RD350, etc... what's the deal with the petcock as well as the little hook shaped nozzle at the rear of the tank? I plugged mine up because fuel just pours out of it. Is that cool or do those things serve a purpose other than direct access to fuel?

There are two of them. They're connected by a piece of fuel line to equalize the fuel level in the tank.

They just connect to each other and not the carbs or anything like that?

Petcock will have the outlet and you run a piece of hose from that to a "Y". From the "Y" one side goes to the other outlet on the tank and then the bottom of the "Y" goes to the carb.

They have this as well some tanks suck and don't do well getting fuel from one side to the other and this allows fuel to be used properly on both sides of the tank.

On the Honda CB tanks, the petcock connects to the carb. The two small outlets connect to eachother. That's it.

Yep, VZ's right. I would simply add this: as a matter of easy, you can run a small valve in the fuel line between the two sides to make it easier to take the tank off (so fuel doesn't gush out), and use a binder clip on the fuel line to pinch it off.
