Getting Into the Café Craze!

Hello from Brighton Ontario Canada (One hour east of Toronto).
My regular ride is an 08 V-Strom 650, comfortable ride but I am in need for speed.
Just got myself a 73 cb350g K5 for $150
The plan is to take it down to a Café Racer and some day use it to wake up this sleepy town.
But first things first! Got to get this bad boy running.
Need a pair of decent carbs for a rebuild and a tank as mine is a dented rust bucket.

Seriously, they are great bikes. Check out Dime City Cycles (top of the page) - they have all sorts of cool stuff and are great to deal with.

Your right Big Rich, perhaps I should have gone with a Hayabusa but then again I would not be talking to you on this forum. I am a motorcycle nut and have been for many years, also a bit of history buff and wanted a bike that will capture that Café era. It was all about the smaller CC bikes in those days so I think I can recapture a piece of the past with the CB350 as well as getting involved in a new era of Café racing. The past has been reborn and I am having a blast getting my hands dirty. Now if only the wife saw it the way I do!!

Ya man, I know what you mean about smaller bikes - I have a 175 and it's a hoot to ride.

350s are where its at. I love em. You can do just about anything with them.

I need a good kick in the ass to get me going every now and again.
Busy acquiring some parts for the old beast and then I'm going to get going on it. Took the carbs off and I have never seen such a gummed up mess, also needs one diaphragm. May head over to the salvage yard on the weekend to see what they have. I want to make sure the motor is good before I strip her down. Only 8k on it and not seized so I bet she’s fine.

Nice deal on the 350! Just finished working on a 71 CL175 that someone else had mostly built, and now I'm itching to do a complete resto myself. Like you, I love the history behind the bike as much as the bike itself. Good luck!

Funny you mentioned taking over someone’s project. This weekend I picked up another 73 CB350. Frame was already striped and painted, front forks redone and a crap load of parts ordered. Just spent the night in the garage working away on the front wheel. Chrome is not great so I am going to paint it black. Then I am going to install new spokes. Any tips on installing them from anyone would be great. Having a TON of fun tinkering away on my new project. I will post pics of the bikes in a day or two.
 
You should start a build thread for this - you'll get a lot more responses.

Spokes arent too bad at all. I dial indicator and a truing stand help of course, but i used a couple jackstands. It does help to have an extra front wheel to have around for reference too.
