When life gives you lemons......build a cafe :)
Well this is my GS. This bike is clean and was free! It was sitting in my friends garage for alot of years. She needed the space in her garage so stored it at my house. I love motorcycle and have been riding for about 11yrs now, my current ride is a 2003 SV650S. Well I had been wanting to get the GS running and accomplished that but it was rough. The handle bars were bent from a previous drop and the carb needed cleaning.I don't love the funky style and I was already doing all this work so I decided to just go all the way with her :) This will be a big challange but I'm up for it! I up loaded ti pics to photo bucket, but only thing that I'm able to post is the link. So reader has to click on link to see pic.
 
go to photobucket, click on the image you want to post, then copy the IMG url and paste it in a reply and post it here....it should work no problem

well it's still only allowing me to post links ? I guess I try again later I'm getting flustered! ???
 
C?ool! How did you get it to post? well moving on I am about Half way through taking the bike apart mostly for cleaning and touch up to the frame. I might end up painting the frame. Any ideas on the tank? it's already dented so I thought about making knee dents but it might not work with that tank style.

Nice work space there as well btw. Got a good start. Make sure to ask plenty of questions. There are lots of people on here with a wealth of knowledge and no need to worry about getting flamed.
Looks like you are pretty organized too. A good way to help keep track of everything is to take lots and lots of pics (we like our pics) but use them as a guide to help put things back. Also use ziplock bags and label everything. Will make life much easier. Good luck with the build. Hope I can help in some way.

The tank depends on cash and your vision when finished. Most cafe tanks are a little more boxy so if it were me I'd consider looking for a different tank. A different style can be found for pretty cheap from different sources. Would be up to you of course, that is jsut my .02 so take it for what its worth.
 
Basically you take this link (or any link to a picture on the web)

Now that you conquered the pic thing post away. I hear on the tool situation I'm a mechanic and still have twice in tools as I have in the bike. A cardboard box can also hepl sort bolts poke them through to keep the different length one where they are supposed to be. Like on a side cover or such. I would reccomend a different tank also. That one is a bit too cruiser. Good luck and keep us posted.

Really like what he did to lift the tank up. Looks 100% better like that and it is an easy solution
 
I have a friend here locally that built one of those into a cafe racer. He did a lot of engine work and built it up to over 500ccs (I forget the exact size). But the bike just screams.

OK.....I have done a bit more work. I have stripped the tank to ready for dent fix, removed the tail light, blinkers, fender, rear wheel, handlebrs, levers & controls. I have also been doing some trial polishing on the brake lever and right hand controls.....What a BITCH! I think I have figured out the best way to be able to go a bit quicker. It is my first attempt at polishing but I am starting to get the hang of it and really enjoy when the part begins to look shiny :0 here are some pics of the tank and bike.

I think I might end up doing a Bratty cafe...I guess I will just follow where it goes :)
