GN125 Upgading tires

So I'm wanting to upgrade my tires and I'm wanting some dual sport tires. I'm not sure how to match

  • Size will effect the handling in a bad way! Dual sports tires are still a good option

So I'm wanting to upgrade my tires and I'm wanting some dual sport tires. I'm not sure how to match them exactly to the correct size knowing the back rim is a 16 and the front is a 18. Where can I find the right size tubes after buying the right tires? If I'm not mistaken, tubes are made for specific rim sizes and tire sizes. So if I understand your question, find the right size tires, then find the right size tubes to fit those tires.

Did I miss something?
 
That solves part of it, where can I find the tires in the picture or something similar to fit my 82 gn125 :) I'm aware they need to be the exact size I just don't know where to buy the tubes to match the tires.

Use that tool to pick a tired based on the size you're after. Good luck

Tubes have a "range" fit fitment - IE: 4.00-4.50, etc so getting an "exact" fit is not mandatory.

But above all - don't buy tyres because they "look cool" - buy the ones that work the best.
 
Thanks for the responses everyone, the tires look good but i also want it to be dual so I can go off the road and still be safely stable

There's nothing dumber than putting off road tires on a street bike or "cafe racer." Agree'd.

I had duel sports on my KZ400, which I guess is a street bike(?), but like this guy I enjoyed taking it on dirt roads. So does that mean it wasn't a street bike anymore? I dunno. But either way, if you are planning on riding on dirt, go for it.

Fact is, there are a ton of options out there. So do some research and get the tire that is going to best serve your needs. For instance some are more geared towards street riding, like an 80% street 20% dirt focused tire (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/20401/i/shinko-705-series-dual-sport-rear-tire), while others are more 60/40 (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/15048/i/shinko-700-series-dual-sport-rear-tire). Just a couple of examples.

Then of course you have to find something that will fit your bike :)
 
Yeah I noticed that,i Was leaning more forwards the 80% street and 20% off road. Because it is a street bike and that's mostly where it's going to be. And thankstreitz for being so helpful, I areciate man.
 
Shinko 705's are terrible choice for a 10hp bike.

My 919 hornet has continental street tires and i ride loose gravel regularly so dont tell me street tires wont work fine. I can drift my bike completely sideways at 40-50mph back and forth on dirt or gravel without losing control.
 
They don't even make the 705's in his size. I wasn't recommending that tire, only showing an example of an 80/20.

You may be a more talented rider than most. I personally wouldn't ride loose gravel with street tires. So sure, street tires may work fine for you, but that doesn't mean they'll work well for everyone.

Im sorry but I'm going to have to agree with treitz. I'm a newbie just trying to be safe when off roading. I'm not trying to drift sideways, just make a safer bike. I didn't put this up to show who's more knowledgable on a bike, but to help build a safer and reliable bike. And to be honest you haven't helped at all, just bragging about being able to drift your motorcycle.

If you want a safer and more reliable bike for off road get an off road bike. When you increase off road, performance, you can easily greatly decrease on road performance. Wher do you wanna wreck?

I'm not trying to show off i'm just telling you, the idea that street tires are unsafe off road is b.s., it's something people get overly concerned with. Most that think they will be off road a lot on their street bike, should get an off road bike. I doubt you'll be off road as much as you think. Wait till you go down on concrete with off road tires, you'll understand then.
 
For example, the bike you posted would be a deathtrap on pavement. Disc brake with no grip, down you go the first time you have to panic brake.

I wasnt bragging I was telling you the facts about what a street tire is capable of on dirt, which is generally a LOT more than most people give them credit for.
