gpz750 pistons in a cb350 and other engine mods

I lucked out and found a set of NOS Rocky S12 over bore pistons (67mm) on eBay for 9$. Found the S12 head gasket as well. Just got them loaded up this past weekend. Search around and see if you can find some. Rocky was an OEM Honda supplier I believe. I had trouble finding S12 rings until the lovely folks at Bore Tech informed me that CB360 rings will work, and they do.

makes me wonder if 360 pistons will work in the 350...

PJ?! we need you! ;) ;) ;D ;D

Fairly certain this was brought up in another thread and PJ said "no" they won't work. Something to do with the compression ratio cb350 = 9.5:1. cb360 = 9.3:1.

I asked pajamas and the 360 uses a 15mm pin to opposed to a 16mm pin on a cb 350

shouldnt be too hard to bore that hole out 1 mm now would it? ;) ;)

If you can find kz 440 pistons(67mm) go for it,,,,,,I almost sure :o the pin diameter is the same,,,,,,,,but have never heard on that mod being done,,,,,,no tech on machining,,,,,,,,kz 400 are 64mm..same as cb 350,,compared them at a kawi dealer,,,many moons ago,,,,,,but it's still the stock bore size( no oversize available)..or check with Kawi USA

if they are in fact the same dimensions... it could still be a better piston.

any idea if the valve cutouts on those kz440's are deeper? could allow a person to keep stock bore and get a high lift cam cheaply.

Damn! nice deal! Thanks for the tip, have you gotten to test out the bike yet? How do you like them?

Opps, sorry man. I somehow missed your reply. To answer, no I haven't tried them out yet. The missing link to my motor assembly arrives today so I'll be getting the rest of all that together tonight. I still have a ton of other stuff to do as well. I'm thinking another month or so and I'll be braking this girl in. I will certainly post the results.

So I think I've decided to run GPZ pistons with a '69 head (complete head) and vm30's. Anyone know if I will run into any valve clearance issues with that piston and cam combo? Should i bump up to vm32s?

I've read alot about the this and I believe Todd touched upon it earlier about relieving the GPZ piston edges for head clearance. I havn't been able to find any examples of this so I'm having trouble developing an image in my head of what exactly needs to be done. Anyone have a diagram/photo/sketch they can share so I know exactly what to tell the machinist when I bring him the pistons? I will sketch something up later today when I get the chance and maybe you guys can help me out.

This thread has been a huge help, thanks again everyone!

clearance should be fine. good luck finding those early heads.... racers buy them all. shouldnt be clearance issues and should run nicely. i would run vm30s with that setup. vm32 could be done, but for the way that motor is built it would be happier with the vm30s.

youll need cb360 carb boots for the vm30s or you can get them from these guys under the carb section... http://www.speedmotoco.com/

i hear you can make the vm30s fit with the stock boots by either getting the ends of them machined down a bit, or forcing them on. when i get the carbs im going to try heating the stock boots and forcing them on. your call
;D

That's backwards, CB350 is 15mm CB360 is 16mm.
Boring CB350 small end probably isn't a good idea.
The XS400 I fitted GS500 liners/piston a few years ago is finally running (it's now a 500, 7mm oversize ;D)
Chris E-mailed me over the weekend.
No other info though.
