Been lurking for some time but finally decided to introduce myself.
I´m Oli From Bs As Argentina, just bought a new old bike (a 1982 KZ650) to start a project but unfortunatelly it got on fire a month ago. Fortunatelly no one got hurt so now I´m in the process of bringing it back to life, just waiting for some parts.
I intended to do most of the wrenching myself since the engine was already rebuilt but now it needs some major surgery so I outsourced many things, I don´t know if it still can make a good build thread but I´ll post some pictures of the process and of the finished bike for sure.
See you arround.

Welcome to DTT Oli. Sorry to hear about your bike catching fire. Hope to see some progress pics soon.

This is how she looked like a month and a half ago when I bought it.

This is how she looked like after taking it apart, some frame detabing and cutting to fit a rear loop (you can see the engine, wheels and some more parts in the background)

The frame got the loop welded and then was blasted and powdercoated toghether with the wheels and some other parts (brake pedal, footrests etc). The motor was painted black and top gaskets were replaced. I´m waiting for my tires right now (I got a shinko 214 for the back and an avon speedmaster for the front) so she can be back on two wheels as soon as possible. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner including an overbore, new pistons, new rings and new chains so that part is mostly done. I got another set of carbs for it (mikuni´s from a 78 z650) since the original ones were defective and they were CV so I wasn´t able to run pods with them and since my airbox no longer exist I´m heading to the pod route. I also salvaged a Z650 tank that will need some work done but nothing major, all the other parts are being bought as I need them to continue.
