Life starts at 100
I'm not sure how I haven't found this site sooner? But how-do. I don't know if there's a terribly specific definition of café racers that defines an era, genre and/or even a range of marques that can apply - because while I don't own anything nearly as cool as what appears on these pages, I'm working on it. But I love 'em. Glad I found this place. 
What I do own are a pair of Ducatis; I'm rebuilding my '97 m750 upon which I got T-boned last year. I've always thought of it as my 'modern' café bike ... tossing the handlebars & huge flyscreen for 10º racing clip-ons, and now with rearsets and a number of other non-stock items. It's not on the road yet, but getting there. Something tells me it doesn't truly qualify as a café racer, but I'll pretend. For now my daily runner is a blue '88 Paso 750. Mostly stock, if you're used to the European version, but with a couple subtle tweaks (love me them steel braided lines).
My other garage occupant - which I haven't touched yet - is my Dad's 1972 Yamaha Maxim 750. That is bone stock. He'll never ride it again, (because he's got a HD now) so I'm just going to let it linger in my garage for a while longer, and hope that 'possession is 9/10ths' kicks in at some point, and then all bets are off. Along with those goofy handlebars.
Anyway: I'm Jake. I do web design/development, play guitar and love riding/wrenching/dreaming/breathing motorcycles. I'm a dad of 2 under the age of 7. I can be found on ducatipaso.org & I co-own NorthEast Ducati Riders (another forum), and I'm a mod on ducati.ms (which I frequent less & less, damn VerticalScope). And I'm always trying to scrub off that last centimeter of chicken strip.
