Greetings from Chicago [Honda CJ360t]

Been Around the Block
Hello :D

I fell in love with the cafe racer style motorcycle and lifestyle as soon as I saw them. At first I never really knew what they were called other than vintage looking motorcycles but after lurking a few I think I have a better idea

I recently picked up a Honda CJ360t [runs good, had some minor cosmetic stuff done to it, but pretty much stock] and hopefully I can make her close to a beauty as some of you people have made. I greatly envy you all for your craftsmanship and I hope I will learn some new stuff here as I go by.

With the fall/winter season coming up, or its here already I suppose, I'll be slowly making changes to her. I hope some of you Honda owners can give a young person like me some advice and helping hand!

Thanks for your time, I'll post some pictures tomorrow when its light out!

Heres some photos finally!

Ran well when I got her, but it ran out of battery
Then my father charged it (without me knowing) with a car charger and thats when I think he burned out her wiring, or at least the rectifier. Decided to do the following:

-new rectifier unit + battery
-change the wiring on the whole bike?
-clubman handlebars
-bump style cafe seat
-convert to LED turn signals
-etc

If you guys have any suggestions please let me know! Im always willing to learn!

That's a good looking bike. I'm kind of jealous. I looked and looked for a honda twin but couldn't find one I liked.

You probably don't need to replace all the wiring, but it would be one sure way of knowing you didn't have a shorted wire. Here's a diagram for your bike: http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/CB-CJ-CL360.jpg

I would look at the voltage regulator too if your rectifier is fried. I think that a lot of people on this board use a rectifier from Radio Shack (~$4 #276-1185) in combination with a voltage regulator from Auto Zone (~$28 Duralast VR730) for these 70s Hondas. And if you're converting to LED signals, you'll either need to get a load equalizer to use your stock flasher, or just get a new flasher that works with LEDs. They're not expensive.

You may also want to look at converting the headlamp to a 35/35 H4 bulb. Less draw than the stock sealed beam, but just as bright (so I hear.) That, in combination with the LED signals (and maybe LED tail light?) would lower your overall draw and help with some of the charging system pitfalls that all of these bikes have.

and yes, I'm planning on changing the signals to LED's at least, but Im keeping the headlight just because I like the stock one! & I'm already dry on the cheese if u know what i mean... haha

but i am also going to pick up the radioshack rectifier + ill stop by autozone as well, thank you :D

wow, thats a nice bike dude. :D It has a custom paint job too? Looks good. Let's see how you turn it out.

yea its a custom paint job of whoever owned it before me... i'm having this internal struggle whether or not i should keep the paintjob though, what do you guys think?

I think I would find another seat, tank, and fender and use them instead. Could probably sell that tank and seat tail on ebay.

It is a nice bike btw!

!! i was thinking about doing this

BigR what kind of tanks do you think would fit for a cj360? Im sorry I just dont have much experience with other bikes other than this one to know how the other tanks fit at all!

It depends. Tanks from the other 360's will likely bolt right up with little hassle. Ones from other Honda's might require the rear mounts to be modified, or the front mounts to be modified. Tanks from other makes (Suzuki, Yamaha, etc) are usually a real pita to mount.

Best advice I can give is check out some other 360 builds and find out what they did/used.

alright, well for now ill just use this tank and if a 360 tank is to magically pop up- then ill just jump on it :D

I might paint it over...though it is a nice job. I would see if you could reuse that rear end section as a cowl or something. I like it.

Hey what is under that lid on your gas tank??

Nice looking bike for sure. I'm a bit partial to the 360s though. :D

I second the idea for selling the tank and tail on eBay and looking at some other options. For a combination R/R take a look are www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com

They do some quality stuff for vintage bikes.

i actually ordered my rectifier regulator from there, just arrived yesterday :D

i saw your work Sonrier on SOS, do u happen to have ur side covers? 8D ;D

Has anyone worked on an 80's CM200t model? Theres a gas tank for sale for that motorcycle and I'm wondering if it'd fit...

That's an incredible fishnet paint job. Looks to be really well done.

There's lots of us in the Chicagoland area on DTT and some of us have Hondas.
