Hi all...

I've been lurking on the boards for a while, just reading and learning as much as I can. I'm a teacher, father of two and hoping to build my first bike the right way. I'll start another thread with my project, but, she's a '73 cb350f with 8,000 miles on the clock. Get this, my students gave her to me as a gift 1 1/2 years ago. That's right! Some of them knew I was looking for a bike and that I really enjoyed the cafe theme. I originally was looking for a 550 but how could I pass this up when they had worked so hard to grab her. I'm in the west 'burbs of Chicago, handy with tools and my hands, but have never really fabricated before. This WILL be a huge learning process for me, probably with many mistakes along the way. ;D Oh well...it'll be fun.

We're here to answer questions, offer praise and snarky comments. You can do it! I teach too, (only part time at the local Uni) and having students buy you a bike is pretty amazing! Can't wait to see it man.

Thanks Ethanol-

I am super pumped, but know it will be a long process. So many ideas....so little time. There will be many a question from me.

I am new here as well, welcome. That is freakin' cool that your students gave you a bike and a 350F at that! Do you have any pictures of her as she stands today?

Yea..awesome weather! Wizard of Oz style. I'm in Wheaton. I actually got my bike from a shop up by you. I think he's since gone under. I'd have to look up the name as I can't remember off the top of my head.

I think I'll be employing your powder skills at some point too. We'll have to chat.
