Louder the pipes, the safer you'll be.
Where there is really no EPA standards or anyone that really cares about loud noises ( other than those pesky neighbors). I live in a farm state which has a good side and a bad side. The good side is that anything pretty much goes as to the limitations on motorcylces. We have to have a headlight, tail light, and at least one mirror. Id have to say that leaves a lot of weight off a bike if you can survive without the instruments.The bad thing is that most of the main roads here are straight and in grids so the riding isnt much fun in town. Stop light to stop light accelerations is pretty much all we get here. Anyways Im just here to find some help with a CB i came across for free that a buddy of mine had sitting on the side of his house for the past 10 years covered with a tarp. Now we are talking a 1971 CB175 , I couldn't believe he was just going to give it to me. I had to give him something for the bike, he had mentioned that his dad bought a new head for the bike thinking that there was a valve issue. They never seemed to have got around to fixing the bike and it just sat... and sat.. and sat. So luckily I came across a really nice score of a bike so here are the pictures that I have from when I first started working on it 3 years ago.
This was a little after i started to tear into it.
Threw a little primer on the tank
Then for the tailsection I had a spare tank that had a similar shape and the same seam coming down the middle. Thought that this would make a nice seat cowl. I dont have a lot of pictures of cutting the tank and painting the frame, but here in these next pictures the frame has been re-sprayed a gloss black and the tank has been painted a metallic silver.
Here the seat has been tacked, I think the seat will look real nice once it see's paint and has some cushion to it. Also I trimmed off the excess metal to have a lower profile. Also the exhaust were hacked with a metal blade and makita. Haha man those things sound mean unrestricted.
This last picture is how the bike stands as of now. Just waiting for me to come up with some funds to get her on the road again.
Now this is were you give me support and/or criticism, I will be needing all the motivation I can get here in order to get this thing rolling again. The only thing that stopped me before was that I did not have a title for the bike, and now I do. So lets get this piece of 70's history back to its roads. I look forward to everyone's help.
Now my questions are.... I have a spare engine, a CL175, now the CBs come with an electric start and CLs do not. Im hoping to ditch the electric start and build the CL bottom end with the parts from the CB. What are your opinions on this swap and is there anything special I would need to know?
