Looks pretty bad ass... My kind of tea party... Well, it seems you like the hard rock, gothic, fighter inustrial look. Cool me too. what about adding spikes to the middle of the fender, Mohawk style? I had those (6) to be exact running along my front fender of my ducati FIghter Monster and it looked pretty trick...

Don't think I haven't pondered that idea... although I would be hard pressed to add something to my bike that would make a crash more catastropic. I'm trying to tread a thin line where I add just the righ amout of edge without looking like I'm riding a battle vest. Get too punk and I'd have to slap a Misfits decal on there. I want industrial, but not too Mad Max.

I actually got quite a bit done the last two days...
Mostly paint and prep but forward motion is what it is. I stripped the rims down and started laying paint there. I also hit the groves on the forks but it still isn't as clean as I'd prefer. I also finalized the color scheme, after much agonizing debate (mostly with the voices in my own head). The wheels caught some appliance epoxy. I have to say that stuff rocks hard. Sticky as hell though. I do my painting in a car port and one strong wind made things interesting. Needless to say I'll be building a makeshift paint booth in the week required before the next coat.
As I was on photoshop anyway I churned out the new look. Should be the last version. I'm also throwing in the Excile Cycles Mad Max as it is my color inspiration. I think I plan on stealing the diamond plate look on the tank, but I'm thinking more of a 3 1/2 inch racing stripe down the left side of the tank. I don't know why but I have a weakness for off center stripes. Still open to debate, but as of right now I'm digging it.

A month has gone by like nothing. Damn time is a bitch.
Gotta catch you up. Got the seat mostly assembled before I realized I hated it. It wasn't terrible, but it was not to the level that I'm going for. I still like the idea/look but I'm gonna wait until I can do a proper pan out of fiberglass so it will be thinner and hug the frame closer. The main issue was the width of he stock pan.
I started on the side covers. I had to make some concessions on the original design, but I'll make it work. I did not like the look of the expanded mesh so I got some perforated sheet metal at the recycling center. After cutting the basic shape I'll do a frame with light gauge plate steel, and set the logo in the center. I'm not sure if I'll modify the logo any more, but I'll need to decide soon.
I also started designing rearsets. I am not entirely sure on all the mechanics but I'll emulate a lot of Motofiaccone and HerrDeacon's design. I really need to do some more research on how to do the brake side since the aluminum rear bracket that I'm ditching has the brake lever and master cylinder attached. Feel free to post options/ideas if you have any.

Here is some of what I picked up at the recycling center. My "mill" is a hacksaw blade and some files.

Got a little done on the side panel... until the one and only fiber reinforced disc broke. Tried to do the rest with just the hacksaw blade. Not gonna happen, I'll get another disc tomorrow.
Next I tried a little engraving on an engine cover. Of course I chose the chrome one instead of an aluminum one. Of course I have what I need for aluminum, but I can only do so much with the chrome. First I stripped it down with a sanding disc.
Next; prepped and taped off.
Laid in the basic design by hand. Really didn't have to be too precise because the marker could not get close to being as accurate as it would have to be.
Roughed in awaiting the next phase.
To continue I'm gonna pick up a tungsten Dremel tip and a diamond tip set to do the fine detail work.

Just awesome Cresent. I really like the side covers alot. Maybe some brass rivets to hold it together. I just saw a headlight that for some reason gives me the same feel. I'll try to find it. ithink you will dig it.

Thanks Troy. You'll get some credit if all goes well, unfortunately you get some if I fail miserably also. I'm sure that is an outside bet though. ;D
I modified the logo a bit. It is getting there, but still looks stagnant and stationary. It does fit the steampunk turn the build seems to be taking.
I probably need ti stretch it out some to add a little more free space, but it should look nice on the side cover when done. I'll make some smaller gears and what not to go around it so it looks kinda like this:

That is bad ass. I gotta try and build that light. I guess I'm gonna have the first steampunk cafe, but instead of brass I'm thinking gun blued rivets and accents.
You may have to keep the blinding flashes of insight to yourself or I'll never get this thing finished.

Hit the texture this morning.
Ready to start the details.
Up close you can see the texture I'm after. I like the even stippling look, but I wanted it to look like hammered copper. Should be spot on once I lay in the black, assuming I can figure that part out.
I really need to get the really fine point diamond tip to lay in the details and lines. So far I'm happy with it, which is a good thing. I just realized my extra motor is without clutch cover, so this one will have to turn out well so I don't have to resort to ebay.

Thanks Big R. I did my initial practice on some scrap aluminum, which was much easier. If I had started with the steel I would have been too discouraged because it takes a lot more patience. I just want to get it done so I can move on to the stator cover. That should be more fun, and I have an extra (just in case).
On a side note, I got a tungsten cutter which cuts great. The downside is it produces wee little dagger like slivers which are at this moment burrowing into several places on my hands and arms. It feels like I have been rolling in fiberglass, so I'd suggest sleeves and gloves.

Cresent, I am really digging the turn in direction! I remember when you first started this thread and you had everything so planned and set out to create what your mind already had! I always do the same thing, funny how your ideas change as you mold the steel huh? You will have a very nice bike when its all said and done, really cool work you have going! Good job.

Thanks Brandon, I really appreciate the reinforcement. I knew that the bike would evolve some as I pulled from the guys around here, that is why I debated that the design should be part of the build. The ideas I had in the beginning were just a starting point. The only thing that wasn't accounted for was the sheer volume of inspiration around here. I still love a straight up clean cafe racer, but I gotta follow the "path".
At least I now know why everyone has so many projects going around here.
