Hello first let me introduce myself. My name is Kurt I own a cb360(in pieces) and 82 cm450e. The trouble im having is im want to run pod filters and straight exhaust but no shop is willing to do carb jetting on it cause they say they wont b able to get it right and ive never done it. My question is is anyone running this setup and what did you use(jet wise) and where did you find them i have the keihin carbs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The shops actually know what they are talking about.
The late model 3 jet piston type CV carbs are REALLY difficult to get working better than mediocre without stock airbox.
Honda spent a lot of time and money to design it and you can't actually improve anything by removing it
I haven't been inside a set of 400/450t carbs for a long time, it may be possible to make them work but it won't be easy
Even if you buy Dyno-Jet jet kit it states you 'may' have drivability issues
I know enough about CB360 carbs to make them work pretty good and cure mid-range problems, 400t may be similar but I'm pretty sure they will need even more work
(If anyone want's to send me a set to experiment with, I'll do you a deal)

The only real alternative is to fit Mikuni's for around $325.00 plus, (budget for re-jetting on top of purchase price for kit)
Bit expensive, just to fit pods ::)

Well thank you for the info. I was just hoping since ive seen so many on this forum(maritime) running pods. I cant stand anything to be stock its not in my nature.

I have the pods, and emgo shorties. I think my bike runs ok, but I don't really know, it runs as good as it did with the airbox and stock pipes and x-over. also I discovered through the process that the Canadian spec carbs are not the same as the US and have some parts different because we did not have all the emissions rules the US had in the 80's, Mine are more tunable. I have the later model 450 cc engine with the 81 400 carbs and it hauls to redline in every gear except 6 and it pulls my fat ass to 90 mph on the freeway easy, then will creep up to the ton. I really would like someone elses bike stock to compare too as I know it runs but maybe it is supposed to run better?? I am happy enough with it. It friggin sat for 3 months in the shed in -30 weather. THe last ride of last year I rode it in the rain, put it away with a half tank of fuel and meant to go back and do a proper winter prep, never got to it and moved. I just picked it up saturday, brought it to my new place. Pulled the choke, hit the starter, after 3 tries it fired up an was idling. I let it warm up, pushed choke off, put my helmet on and tore up the road while it was snowing. I got it to 60mph (100 KPH) on the short stretch before my stop sign (25mph/50 KPH) zone ;D froze my arse off but was grinning the whole way around the block.

I can't find my notes but I have a garage now and may get the time to pull the carbs and post up my jets and mixture screw settings.

Thank you for your responce. Ive read your build thread many times I think you said you were running 128 mains and 72or76 secondaries. The set up you have is what im looking for. Dont know about the difference in canadian carbs and US carbs but I am not worried about emissions. I have a friend who said he can tune it no prob with stock equipment for now but i guess I am going to have to teach myself carbs tuning n jetting. I have the stock exhaust on there now with the pod filters and she's a rocket as long as have the throttle wide open but when im slowing down you can hear the slight back fire and popping. Would love to come up to Canada and run with you but that's a little far for me(bout 15hrs) dependng on where you are. I appreciate all your help and continueing advice. I will be posting pics of mine as soon as I can.

Cool, I had posted my carb jet numbers a few years back. I could never find them again. I am 15 mins from Houlton ME in Woodstock, NB. I hope to have the 450 to one of the gtg this year so if you make one of those we can compare notes. I am looking at putting a 2-1 pipe I have but I need to monky around with the brake lever or get a piece of pipe bent to clear it. It actually has a baffle and may piss the neighbors off less. You can break off the emmisions parts and chuck them from the carbs. If you have a clymers they show you where they are. My bike will pop a little if I go from WOT to fully closed on occasion but in general it runs well. It is slightly rich as I am leary of lean loosing a piston once. Good luck and I will help any way I can.

Cheers,
