Hello from Chicago! Newbie

Hey everyone,
Newbie here from Chicago with a 79' xs400 I bought in April. I slowly have started to modify it, going for a cafe brat look. I just bought a new seat and hoop but I don't know a welder! If anyone out there is from the Chicago area and could help me out I'd appreciate it!

I use a AJC out in Elk Grove Village for any important welds. Simple stuff anyone can do. Talk to your local auto repair shop and see if they can MIG weld for you. I managed to get MIDAS to weld up a fork tool for a few bucks (steel Tee with a suitable nut on the end of the shaft).

All exhaust places have some sort of welder on staff who can probably manage simple welds if the parts are prepped.

What are you trying to weld - some sort of seat brackets? If so have you designed and made the brackets?

If not, maybe keep riding for now while you take care of that so you can take the bike and parts ready to be welded up to your welder.
