HELP! no timing mark on Rick's CB360 Hot Shot High Output Charging kit

Keep it simple- engine, wheels, bars

Every decision has consequences...I previously installed a Rick's Hot Shot High Output Charging kit (stator, regulator, etc). The above video is not mine but shows the stock stator with the "notch" for timing adjustments. A few seconds later the Hot Shot stator is in place and you notice there is NO NOTCH.

Am I missing something here? I can GUESS that it is half way across the 11 o'clock winding, but is there another way.......?????????

.
easy deal . . put your piston on tdc with a dial indicator etc then put a tdc mark on the flywheel thatl ines up with the mark int he case.

After I calmed down, it was an easy fix. Break out the degree wheel.

I was in a rush and couldn't believe my eyes.....no mark....

However, what should have been a 10minute job to check the timing and valve clearances, turned into an all day affair- searching for the degree wheel, mounting the degree wheel, looking for the piston stop, borrowing a piston stop......

You can also use a positive stop and split the difference.

yup, good thinking.

one way to do this is to get a metric bolt the size and pitch of the plug and thread it in 8 turns, then carefully rotate the engine with a wrench . . if it rotates, turn the bolt one more turn and try again . . when the piston finally hits the piston, put a mark on the flywheel, then rotate it the opposite direction until it stops again and mark the flywheel.

the center between the two marks will be tdc.
