help with finding kz440 intake boots....

Moglix

cb360....
I've got a 82 kz440 and just bought new set of vm32's for it, my boots are shot and rather than epoxy up i'm keen to buy new ones but cannot find new ones anywhere... there was a dude on ebay that had them but is fresh out..

anyone know of where i can source some??
thanks in advance....

Have you tried a dealer? Let me GOOGLE that for you...

I googled Kawasaki parts and found this:

http://www.partforyamaha.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=KUS#/Kawasaki/KZ440-G1_%281982%29/CYLINDER_HEAD/KZ440-G1-1982/080111B-4

16065 16065-1027 HOLDER,CARBURETOR $22.53

They are in stock...I bet you could shop around for them.....

Not sure why everyone goes E-Bay. E-bay, for parts online Dealers carry, always seems to be more expensive...

A lot of parts like seals and o-rings are common, and the dealers carry them...It always pays to check the dealers first, see if they have them and what do they cost...Maybe E-bay is a better deal, maybe not, but if you know what the dealer is charging, at least you know if the deal is good or not.

+1. I've had several kz440/400 models and locally I can get carb boots for about 40-44 bucks... Call your local dealers. I would be willing to bet you'll find them for under 50.00.
Also +1 to eBay being more expensive. Ebay is really good for getting old used parts that are really hard to find or no longer made but for new parts, especially wear items, it is always best to try a dealer locally because the odds of it still being produced is very high. Dealerships aren't always the most expensive like everyone portrays them to be.

Sorry, i should have said i'm in butt fuck nowhere christchurch, new zealand... local dealers here = $$$ parts places are worse and then theres ebay unfortunately... i'll chase those links up. Cheers

thanks for the links though, honestly i've been searching for a few days, nothing has lead to a source with stock....

Since you have the part number, you can check some of the NZ dealers. I see there are a few in your country...They may have it....

Stock carb boots will not work with Mikuni VM carbs.
Check out the location of the groove on the stock Keihin carbs vs a Mikuni vm34.
The VM series has more space from the groove to the end.
Also included is a pic of a Mikuni carb boot that fits a vm34 to a KZ440.

Rex, do those also line up perfectly with intake on the head? Does the rubber make for a smooth transition/passage for the flow of air/fuel?.. I've had issues in the past with this and the mikuni specific boots lining up poorly. I made the mistake of attempting to use them and modified them slightly for the mounting bolts to line up then couldn't return them when I found out they need the head port ground down to work optimally. I had to go back to factory boots and made it work. haven't tried it on a kz440 yet but was curious as to if they fit perfectly on anything other than a xs650.

Then why were you installing bigger carbs and unwilling to do a little port matching.
The boots in the pics are only slightly larger than than the vm34s.
I dought your making enough power to notice the difference with an .080 step in the port.
And who said anything about a damn Yamaha 650?

Machining? I'd rather not until I take the head off when I rebuild at a later date. As most people who will be buying a "universal" intake boot will probably be expecting a direct bolt on application. Some people may not have the head off and no one wants to attempt to do it with a dremel and get metal shavings all in their engine.

I think we were all talking about the VM32's not the 34's. So your boots are larger than the vm34 boots?.. I may not be making enough power to notice any difference but so what? I want it to line up perfectly regardless of how it performs, I may not notice the difference at the throttle but I know the difference in my head... And for the honda 450's its about a .3-.4mm.. From the pics it looks like yours is about the same.

I was under the impression that the mikuni "universal" intake boots were only a perfect fitting, direct bolt on for the xs650 models and all other models would need work. I could be incorrect on that though as I can't recall where I read/heard that and I cannot find that information at the moment.

I used them on a cl450 and had to modify the mounting holes as they were too narrow or close together and they also had a gap or step around where they mount.

well, fuck i didn't even think about the difference in lip of the carbs..

anyone know of a specific universal boot for the vm32 that will work on the kz440... i just thought that a stock boot would do the job...
looks like i mkight be well wrong...

so my carbs have arrived all sweet and well....
my brother in law runs these on his xt500 with some a home made alloy intake/ rubber hose mount...
If these are clamped up tight to my kz440 intake boots, whats the chances of air getting in?? could even use a gasket seal for the groove in existing boot??
