Help with SR250 carb

Scratcher09

Been Around the Block
I disassembled my carb and cleaned it in an ultrasonic cleaner and then sandblasted the exterior. It was not in bad shape inside. I have two questions.

Anyone know the float height?

The pin on the end of the float valve (that is pushed by the float tab) is not spring loaded. Most that I have seen are spring loaded. I tried to see if it was maybe stuck--pushed, pulled, and twisted but it doesn't budge. Is it suppose to be like that?

There is no spring on the float valve. It just connects to the float and uses the force of the float lifting to close off the valve.

As for the float height, I have no friken clue. All I did with mine was set it to be parallel with the bowl gasket using a casting mark on the float.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks. I was just looking at your thread. Do you still use velocity stacks? Haven't figured out if I will try pods(bike didn't come with air box).

Yep I do, but I will be swapping to a K&N Pod soon. Side draft winds are a large problem for bikes that run stacks and pods uncovered. I find that if I ride in strong wind the bike will bog down if the wind is hitting side on.

That and I am getting sick of cleaning the carby every few months haha. The ideal thing to do would be to run a K&N in the air box, but since neither of us have one, a decent pod with a cover is the next best bet.

Yep. Such as the side covers that come with the bike, I don't have those either...

If I were to make up some covers I would bend and cut sheet aluminium to fit inside the "triangle"

This is my third SR250. It's a basket case. Carbs were my starting point. Gonna connect the wiring and try to get it going tomorrow.

Sweet man. Post up a build thread once you do. I would like to see it, always good to watch bikes come back from the dead.

I had fun with the last one (the one in my avatar) but I will push this one farther. Gonna do a seat loop and make a tailpiece. Found an old cb550 tank I'll need to refurbish. Don't know the history of this bike but looks like it's been in pieces a loooooong time. These motors are pretty simple so I should be able to get it going.
