Well came across this site from seaching loads of things cafe on the net, as I'm dead keen on modding my little suzuki 78 gt50b into a nice clean cafe racer.
Yay for being 3000th!!! do I get a free patch to show the pride as I ride round on me lil cafe when the things finished? lol :

bit about myself:

nearly 18 have a big interest in anything bike and am doing abit of work experience in the local bike shop.
love tinkering around with things and have come to love the style of cafe from dads earlier years riding triumphs and earlyish hondas.

story of my life I'm poor like alot of us, so I'm going to be doing this bike on the cheap. I will still try and have good workmanship though so any helpful tips in that dept would make my life so much easier.

The bike: rust theres alot nothing major though just surface rust, forks have a graze on front near the seal so i may need to find donor forks, front calipers seized not worth using finding replacement.

the frame isn't the best to have reasets anywhere further back where i want them. the rear pegs are on the swingarm perfect for where I want but on the swingarm so i will have to think of something. think this will be the biggest challenge plus the cafe seat.

the motor Not sure about everything but i'm sure the crank seals a shot and something in the gear selection parts has gone bad. lucky for me my mechanic mate is going to help me take the beast apart and fix her up.

going to have it road legal so it is going to have all the lights and so forth.

Now if I do the ton on this I think that I'll do a backflip. I'll cheat and say if she gets to the ton in our metric system i'll be very happy. ;D

welcome spyke, I gotta ask you a question, and I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but is your bike a 50cc? And if it is why wouldn't you go with something bigger to turn into a cafe?

Yeah it's a single 50cc two stroke (modding the motor slightly), 5 speed clutch. I'm making this into a cafe mainly for the challenge, cheap parts, flickability, lightness and that i'll be able to get pass strict licencing by registering it as a scooter here($70 a year). of course this won't be a back road killer more of a city smasher. the town I live in is basically all 50km speed limits around the suburbs so I'm looking for corner speeds not high speeds.

Having a mini displacement bike can be a heap of fun because you have to ride really hard to see good results plus I won't have to break speed limits too much to test out my bike lol.


We also have a small race class called bucket racing which is 0cc-125cc twostrokes carbs restricted and 0cc-150cc fourstrokes so I'll be able to rock up and have a go on the local kart track when they are racing there.

To be fair I don't have a motorcycle licence yet (I can get around that with having a 50 which you can ride on the car licence), But when I do I'll defianately get a bigger bike as i'll want to go on big day trips and take it to track days. my next project will be a suzuki gs500 or maybe a klr 650 engine transplant into a suitable frame.
