Honda CB350F charging circuit help

Hey guy! I'm working on a 73' CB350 four and I love the thing even though it doesn't even run... (yet). I'm updating all the electronics and have a new universal regulator/rectifier but I'm unsure of what the white wire does coming out of the generator. Can anyone check this over and see if it sounds right? Check out page 3 for the details...

White wire goes to the new regulator rectifier. If your R/R doesn't have a white wire, then you have the wrong R/R.
 
This is what you need.

White wire from the R/R goes to the white wire from the alternator along with the three yellow. Red wire from the unit goes to battery positive terminal and green wire gets grounded. Black wire to another black wire in the harness (power) and the remaining green wire from the alternator gets grounded.

Well I decided not to give up on this r/r and move on! I came across this link a couple weeks ago while trying to search for what the white wire is for. I still have no clue, but it seems unnecessary for moving forward. Check it out, I'll let you guys know the results.

You might want to bookmark this post so you can find the correct answer after you're done wasting your time with that idea.
 
It provides power to the exciter on your alternator. Without it, your alternator produces exactly zero power. Your alternator uses an electromagnet to produce power. The R/R you have installed is for a permanent magnet alternator.
 
Thank you, Sonreir! I followed a bit of your posts on a DIY ignition so I knew you had the knowledge. Well I guess that sets me back another week or so.
