hey guys, starting to rebuild my 72 honda cb450, was wondering if anyone has advice on the best place to find a complete engine gasket set, found a couple online, ebay etc.. any help would be appreciated.
 
even though it would most likely be pricey, a genuine Honda gasket set might be the best. I have had problems with leaks with anything but Honda gaskets.
 
aside from knowing the honda gasket set is the best way to go, does anyone have experience with this set?

Looks like a good kit and the DCC guys know how to rebuild 450s. Note that it doesn't look like it contains the valve seals so you would have to buy them separate. You may ask the DCC guys about that and if they sell them.

You should also replace the cam chain cushions which may still be available from Honda. They are the rubber rings that go on the cams next to the sprockets. They are most likely super hard if they are still there.
 
yeah i will check on the seals and rubber rings.. i bought the gasket and seal kit they offer, said they just got em back in stock so it will be here in a couple days.. awesome. was wondering where a good place is to find a good ring set, standard bore? any help would be appreciated. thanks!
 
so i was at home today so i could use a micrometer to measure the cylinders to make sure they are standard bore, but was wondering if someone could tell me what the specifications should be? i cant seem to find that information online.. thanks
 
Standard bore is 70mm. 1st over is 0.25mm, 2nd is 0.50, 3rd is 0.75mm, and 4th is 1.0mm. Those are what was offered by Honda.
 
i was getting some different variation readings as well, double check and crossed measured as well, here is as follows:

clutch side cylinder 69.72mm
magneto side cylinder 70.26mm

thoughts on this situation? could i have been doing something wrong? it was a brand new digital micrometer..
 
Did you measure at all points (vertical, horizontal, top, middle, lower)? If so, did you get the same measurements for all? The Honda manual only allows for 0.11mm of over before it needs to be bored. No sure about below though. That's odd.

yeah thats weird, i must have done something wrong, and i did not meausre all angles.. i will re-do that again tomorrow to check whats up, assuming i am at standard bore with the one cylinder being under spec.. thanks a ton for the information, do you have an online PDF of the manual, or a link i can download it? thanks again!

ok re-measured everything and looks like i am standard bore. which is good.. now i just need to find the rings.. ebay is looking to be my best bet? harder to come by the standard size rings than the oversized. any other places to look around? thanks
