Honda Cb750c Project

Hey All!

Newbie here, tackling my first project on my second motorcycle.

So I live in Columbia SC and the deep winter (sarcasm) has passed. The bug bit me, and I needed a bike. Asked around and my friend told me that he has a Cb750 he'll part with for 200 bucks. DONE. The only issue is it seems to be idling high at around 2k RPM and he slashed the exhaust intending to put a new one on there. So its a bit loud. Its been sitting since august so the carbs need to be worked on as they are a bit gunky but other than that it runs well.

My friend swears that the mechanic who he took this bike to told him that its a cb750f because of the front forks....but its got a 750c fender side panel and tank, so I think the mechanic was just full of shit OR the fork was replaced. OR both. The guy charged him 900 dollars to rebuild the carbs. Seemed high.

Anyway here are my goals for this project:
1. Replace exhaust with MAC 4-1 system with wrap
2. Repaint Tank and side panels (I'm thinking a dark non metal flake green with white and brown pinstripes
3. Replace rear fender or remove it completely
4. Reshape seat and recover with old leather
5. Mini speedo/tach

Anyways, any input on the MAC exhaust system and whether its worth paying more for something like a Vance and Hines would be great. I really like the Yoshimura style pipes that the guy at cb750cafe.com makes. I think the raw steel with a tan wrap would look great.

CAN'T WAIT TO RIDE

Another C model... Nice! mines an '81. To be honest your front end has me a bit confused.
As a rule of thumb...F models and C models had twin front disc brakes with Comstar wheels, while the K model had a single front disc but wire wheels. I would venture a guess yours has the forks and brake off of a K model with the original C mobel front wheel.
That said there is another DOHC 750 owner here named Notlob, he is across the pond and over there in Eruope they had another model that was similar to a K model with Comstar wheels. The letter designation exscapes me at the moment... maybe it was their version of a K. ::)
Anyway, there are quite a few of us DOHC owners here. In the Shop & Parts Manuals & Speciality Tools... section I have uploaded links to our factory service manual you can download for free. Will help you out "tons".

Congrats and enjoy!
