How do I clean up handle bars

I've seen a few bikes like this and I love the look of it. Now I want keep the mastercyclinder up top and my turn signals close too, but also have a nice retro appearance over all. So how do I do that?

Do the things that you said that you like, for example, keeping your MC up top and putting turn signals close in to the bike. Then, put them on an old motorcycle.

I agree with you, I notice too. I don't mind if the wires are in a harness and the haness shows, but loose wires.

Sorry I don't understand Rich. How do you place the turn signals switch, horn, lights? I've seen a clean bar with a starter button place in a pre drilled hole. I'll go to the old drawing board. I like the vintage controls, I think there off of an old cb350.
 
Ah - turn signal SWITCH...sorry, I misunderstood. Look for a low-profile control, or you'll have to fabricate something out of little parts.
 
That bike has nothing but a throttle tube and a brake lever on the right side. No other controls. Drum brake=no master cylinder. And its missing a tach drive cover :P

No, serious. When it comes to building bikes as clean as the one pictured, you'll have to give it a lot of time, money and other various sacrifices. THAT is what makes a bike stand out. Custom, hand made parts. Like said above, the devil is in the details. You can not assume that buying some 'off the shelf' parts from a webshop will make your bike unique. Its all been done before and i feel its safe to say that making your own parts gives more happiness then 10 grand to spend. You get the point ;)

If you don't like the way it looks or functions, get some info, learn about it (by getting a workshop manual) and change it till it works for you. If you fail, you buy a new part. Honda made about a quarter gazilion bikes, so that's not the problem. Live and learn. That's for bikes and everything else in life. For example, the hinge of my freezer broke, so the door fell out the whole time. Instead of buying a new freezer, i fabbed a new hinge from steel. Better, and damn satisfing!
 
That bike's bars are too swept back to be functional, you probably only have about 10* of steering either side before you're hitting the tank. All show, someone hasn't actually sat on it and got everything adjusted yet...
 
This is not taking any offense Bert. I have an idea for my bike but Im designing as I go and it will take time. I can get my hands on a lot of tools that most people can not but nothing too fancy. Basic tools and a mig and grinders, no water jet though. I lack experience so Im learning as I go. I have a lack of money so there are many pieces that will be hand built more than likely two to three times. Im definitely not one to buy, plug and play with this bike, can't afford any of it and with that said I hope that fact makes my bike come out better because I built the parts and didn't buy them. Like you mentioned. Thanks so far all the comments.

Sweet. Good to know. Whats up with the control picture you posted? Thats an OEM one?
 
I don't know if it is sacrilege to put honda parts on a yamaha, but I love the way honda controls and guages look. I don't know if its considered the same as someone putting a chevy engine in a ford...which I hate but people do it anyways. So I guess I will.
That pic is from a site that sells left an right side new for $70 bucks a piece. Ill keep my oem levers, got to get rid of the mirror perch though. Now does the oem honda right side electrical contol have the throttle assembly in it as well?
 
I'm going to run these switches on my bike. There a bit pricey but I'm don't want anything on my bars. I think I am going to mount the switches under the tank and I don't plan on running turn singles. But they will do it all.

yes that has the throttle tube 'drum' space in it, that round bit at the bottom right corner is where the return cable screws into it, the pull side is at the front.
also if you're using a disc brake front and want to neaten things up, get hold of a remote (cable operated) front m/cyl off either a Kawasaki Z1R or a 70s BMW, these mount on the bottom triple clamp and are usually hidden behind a bikini fairing, however they could equally be hidden under a modified petrol tank and attached to the frame

found a (not great)pic of a Z1R m/cyl, you can see where the cable operates the silver arm on the top which pivots on the shiny silver bolt which then pushes on the piston inside and the hose would attach at the other end of the black bit, the fluid reservoir could be replaced with a much smaller one which are easily available off evilbay for about $5

the whole thing (minus the reservoir) is about 5 inches by 3 inches and attaches by two bolts.

Was looking at 'posh' and 'rhosh' low profile switches yesterday and they may suit your needs at a much lower price point.

Nice! Very kewl thanks. Did you go to their website or did you find it somewhere else. I found out how much they cost expensive but I don't know how to order.
 
The right control unit was produced with and without the throttle assembly. I'm not sure about wich went on where. I have both in the shop, that's how i know.
