I need to know HOW TO DISSASSEMBLE the front hub on a CB350, and a CB360

Me and my friend are in the process of building a CB350 and a CL350. We have it mostly completely dismantled but we cant figure out how to take apart his front hub(I haven't gotten that far). Can anyone help us out?
 
I just put mine back together again in a week ago. The axle is essentially a bolt and a nut. Put a screwdriver in the holes on each end of the shaft and unscrew it.
 
Thanks guys! do you have to remove the spokes to take it apart? He happens to have this particular wheel in his car right now or I'd take a picture, there is something that looks like it is a nut on one side with four slots in it, that I thought you needed a specialty tool for. Maybe its just a seal holding it together...
 
Where exactly is this nut? Do you have the axle out and the brake shoes removed? I'm thinking that that might be the piece that hooks to your speedometer.

This is what we are dealing with. What's the next step? We figure it's the axel but we don't know why it's not coming out.

That requires a special tool.

First, you have to drill out the punch marks, which "stake in" the bearing retainer. Use a 1/8" or so drill bit, and go no deeper than 1/8".

The special tool that you need engages those four slots, and screws the bearing retainer out. A lot of people try to remove the bearing retainer using a punch and a hammer. BIG MISTAKE! The bearing retainer is aluminum, and you can fuck it up very quickly.

I wasn't able to find the tool needed to take the retainer out. I had to make it.
 
Also... For what it's worth, that hub is NOT stock for a CL anything, and only on the '73 model 350. Looks to be standard 360 fare. Just in case you need parts...
 
Oh, and it looks like you sandblasted everything, so you will probably want to unlace the wheel so that you can polish the hub, and put in new spokes that are either stainless, or have the plating intact. Those sandblasted spoke will rust immediately.
 
thanks for all the info guys it really helps. I found the tool needed online but I would like to get it apart sooner than later, you said you made yours... any insight into how you made yours?

P.S. I knew this wheel was from a 360 it just slipped my mind at the moment I was writing this we are upgrading his bike to disc in the front.
 
I could take a picture of it. I made it out of a piece of 2" X 1/4" steel bar. Drilled four holes and inserted 1/4" rod into the four holes. ground the ends of the rods to fit into the slots of the bearing retainer. I've used it several times. it works well. You can also make one out of a socket. Need a big socket for that.
 
another way to fab one is to use a large socket with 4 pieces of keystock carefully layed down the sides of the socket and welded in place to accurately engage the slots
could also be a short pipe or steel tube just weld a barstock handle across it
