Indicator Issues

Sooooooooooooooo..... I just got new indicators off e-bay.

They're from drag specialties (see link in "stuff you've bought or found for sale" if you want some too).

But here's my problem... Like LED's they don't draw enough power to make them cancel.

Has anyone else on here used them successfully?

I was wondering if there was simply a higher-load bulb I could sick in there to get it to work? Or a really cheap solution to my problem?

I was told that I could use a trailer adaptor for a car to get the indicators to work as brake lights... Would that also work to increase the load?

I love the look of these indicaitors and I just want to make em work... on a budget.

If these were made for a 12V system then they should work without any mods. Do they work when you connect them directly to the battery? I believe the trailer adapter is for a tail light that has one bulb with a single filament. It allows less voltage to the bulb while driving and when the brakes are applied, the full voltage for a brake light goes into the bulb.

You will need to put in some resistors. I cannot remember the ratings of what I used. What are the wattages of the bulbs..new and old?

The lights do turn on - they stay on solid, so I assume that means they were meant for a 12 v system.

The plan with the trailer adaptor was so that the rear indicators could be used as a couple of extra brake lights (more visibility) - I was just wondering if the relay from that adaptor would work as a substitute for resistors...

Has anyone replaced the relay instead?

It's right in the budget and says "Will work with most Cars and bikes"... and Judging by the measurements shown it should plug right in where the old one came out.

OK I went ahead and ordered the relay (and LED's for the taillight(s) )... and all together it was around 25 bucks...
I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Are u gonan use those as turn signals and running lights ?
Looks like their is only one wire coming outta them (body ground I am guessing)..
Seem to be a single fillament setup (hope thats what u wanted)..

I was thinking about wiring it up like a trailer (will need a trailer adaptor for a car to make it work... unless someone has a better way ?)... and yes they are single filament.
The lights are self-grounding but I'll be running a wire to the stock ground wire.
Haven't decided if they will be off when there is no brake or always on. I have some LED's coming in soon that should be bright enough when the brake is applied to make the difference to other drivers... Never bee too safe though.

I ordered the same ones, I think they got to the house already. When I get a chance I'm going to be changing the bulbs and sockets out to some 194 dual filament bulbs. Should work well.

Have you seen them yet? THey're absolutely puny (cooool)... However, I don't think they'll lend themselves to changing out the bulb and socket - easily anyway.

Post some info if you manage to get it done.
