Intermittent Cylinder Problem

I have an 80 Suzuki GS750 that has a miss at around 2500 to 3000 RPM area. Above and below that she runs great. Carbs have been redone, has a new battery, voltage regulator and has great compression. I have been going nuts trying to trouble shoot this. I check the pipes and one of them will always seem cooler than the others. Problem is, it's not consistent between cylinders. Sometimes it's one, and sometimes it is number four. Need help. Attached a photo of my engine.

1 and 4 fire on the same coil

so maybe a resistance test of the coil

and trouble shoot the pulse trigger for the coil

Coil is good. Excuse my ignorance but is the pulse trigger the same as the igniter and how do I test it?

The trigger/pulsar coil is what sends a signal to your ignitor/tci if you have one. It will generally have 2 wires coming from it and your service manual should have the acceptable resistance values listed, or show how to do a live voltage test, generally in millivolts.

Suzuki calls it a signal generator. Blue wire, green wire connected to the ignitor box. Disconnect it wherever it allows. Set your meter to ohms and look for somewhere between 100-500 ohms with a lead on each wire, usually if it is faulty it will either read OL or super high resistance.

The problem could also be in the ignitor itself.

Dont forget to test the ign coils

Yes get a FACTORY Suzuki service manual. They are a world better than the clymer manuals. However, a clymer will do in a pinch. Doesnt hurt to have both. Anything spent on manuals will be saved exponentially in frustration alone.

Not a big flipper. Got this one cause it looked like a fun ride. I need something more comfy...I'm old.
