No fight. He's just wrong. We're used to that by now. :-) and to think, there I was agreeing with ADC in another thread. I knew it was too good to last.

Keeping more heat in a pipe also increases cylinder temperature. That's what also happens when you use a smaller stinger on a two stroke. Pipe temps go up and so does cylinder temperature leading to meltdown when things are already marginal. Same effect in a four stroke, but not so marked a pipe temp increase.

Most street bikes that isn't an issue, but in this case, it's not worth the risk for zero power gain. Better to spend the time getting the bike to run correctly and not lose power and not get too hot. Agree?
In most cases that is not a big deal but in a motor where the OP says that it's already losing power when it gets hot, it's not a good idea to tempt fate IMHO.
 
Don't beat yourself up ADC :-)

And if it's actually overheating check ignition timing, jetting, blocked mufflers and so on.
 
i am going to guess a SLIGHT loss of power on that little twin after getting hot is pretty much normal
while still cool it is getting a nice dense charge of airfool mollyclues ;)
 
Chain and valves are set correctly, and i think xb33bsa is heading in the right direction with the less dense air. But fuck airboxes anyway.

The thing runs and for a 125cc it's not doing too bad i think. lots of scoots have seen my taillight this weekend, i just hope they didn't noticed it isn't fully centered, lol :P
 
i found the problem...

my clutch cable is a bit too short with my clubmans so the cable obstruckts the chocke linkage so the right cylinder was always running with a bit of choke left on...

any help finding a clutch cable kit i can use without having to solder a nipple on but just by screwing on?
 
i went for a longer clutchcable today and at the shop there was an cb 125k4 with wrapped pipes. heat wrap smells awfull. also the guy at the shop told me heat wrap is only good for watercooled engines, but that aircooled engines are better off without because (like teazer said) the engine will hold more heat inside the head and they can indeed cause powerloss.

It only smells for a short while but when it does it sure stinks and smokes.
