Is it even possible???...

Is that the best you got? OK.. now my TURN...
Is it even possible to introduce some culture and encourage an appreciation of fine arts to this rather hethen crowd living at the fringes of society's social class???...

Well I shall attempt it...

Look what what I found...For those of you who could possibly appreciate the finer things that live can provide, I urge you to... CHECK THESE PICS OUT from BMD....

Condsidering the Halloween season is fast approaching, I thought these were rather befitting...

Spooky....

Great shots heidi!!.. LO!!!

Fantastic art Heidi.

Post-apocalyptic Victorian imagery, with strong reflections on the deterioration of society, questioning the necessity of maintaining the classical and traditional values against the modern day need to build the newer and better. Your dark and distraught visualization of what was once thought to be timeless is both captivating and provoking. In its own way, an important message to reflect upon ... whether to sustain what we thought to be the ever true or to let time pass that by as well.

Thank you.

(and yes, I too went to art school and really do love the work)

no photochopping or fancy camera work here...i'm in the middle of the building and the sun's behind me...it was point and shoot all the way. and yes it was incredible, but i don't think i'd want to be around later with the crackheads...tooo many corners for people to 'get lost' in.

still don't see spooky. I see a magnificent place that was technically closed just in 1994 being gutted and destroyed. then they allowed the crackheads to move in..... I just can't believe how bad its gotten in such a short time frame.

p.s. the scottish blood in me has a thing for castles and old structures just like that. if I had the money, I'd live in one.

oi. You did say something about culture yes?

I believe its still there at the moment, but probably not for long. I live about an hour from St.Louis,mo. we see alot of ugly glass buildings going up around here.

yes, it's still there. i just shot this series on sunday.

it's in a town called st.thomas which is south of london, ont. (about 2 hrs from both toronto and detroit), and yes it is slated for demolition. for the history gurus, it's in the 'victorian gothic' style and is about 130 years old. for those that know me, they know that this is a small sampling of what i took. the place has been completely ransacked and there is structural damage. what remains is a shell of a once proud building.

there are reports of a ghost in the building. i have to say...i'd agree. not just by what showed up in my shots, but stuff i heard and felt. i will also say that this originally wasn't on my destination list - the person i was visiting thought it might be a neat thing to 'check out' on the way to the beach...so i knew nothing about the history until i came home.

ummm noel, i think he likes it.

thanks for checking out the work and the comments. :)

Nice shots. Places like that are great for scavenging material that can be reused. Lot's of cool wood, fixtures and tiles can find many uses in a home. Detroit is the mecca for great old abondoned buildings. Buffalo is pretty good too. Actually all the major cities in the rustbelt of Northeast U.S.A. have a lot of very cool abandoned buildings.

Do to the ridiculous real estate market in california we dont get alot of badass abandoned buildings.

That's true in the urban centers like LA or Frisco but there are many ghost towns like Ludlow and Amboy along the old Route 66 with abondoned gas stations and lots of other dwellings.

well yeah theres a whole trailer park sitting in 2ft of water near the nevada border somewhere but flooded trailer park vs 130 year old gothic college is not really much of a comparison.
