Is this piece necessary? aluminum triangle bolts to frame and swing arm

I want to remove the triangle piece in the picture so I can put my rear sets about 2 inches farther back and up about an inch. this will also let me narrow the profile about 2 inches as well as give me a little better leverage for the linkage of the rear drum. The bike is a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 450.

I don't think that is any more than a bracket to mount the standard foot pegs, but you will have to shorten the swing arm bolt if you do remove it. Are planning on fabricating a new bracket to take it's place?

I was planning on cutting it down directly behind the sing arm pivot so I don't have to mess with it too much if I could get away with it. On a side note I am also having issues with my rear brake linkage bending rather than pushing the arm and engaging the rear brake any ideas on that?

Ummmm, that looks to me like it supports the swingarm. What does it attach to in the back?

It attaches to the frame at the back and bottom. I think you are right about it supporting the swing arm I just didn't know for sure.
