Hey Y'all just thought I should introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I just recently bought my first bike last week.
Its a 1980 gs 1000 shafty. The kid I bought it from was going to turn it into a cafe racer, but got over it half way through the process. Here' s a picture of the day I got it home:

I'm already starting on the seat pan, but I need my tax return to show up to really get this project moving. I'm thinking that I'll start a build thread as soon as I get my digi camera back. Anyway just thought I'd say hello.
 
Welcome to DTT man! Glad to see another GS, got a old 1980 GS750 Chain, always fun to see a shafty though :D
 
Cool. Most people would probably disagree with me here, but I really like those stock 2 into 1's. I also dig the cones and their low slung length.
 
Thanks for the welcome guys. The bike runs amazingly well, so everything is just cosmetic. The first order of business it to make a rear end for the thing. As for the pipes, I'm going to keep them for now. I only paid $300 for the bike and have about $400 to $500 to throw at it. After I get the important things like cables, gauges, and the like taken care of I'll see about the fun stuff.
 
Yeah I think its a good call on those pipes! :-) Well, as I said before, good luck and keep us posted on your progress...
