kickstart only cb77, smallest battery needed?

is it really ok to just cross the ac wire thats going to the hl switch with the primary alternator wire to get a maximum output?

It's not the primary wire you want to splice into. The alternator is single phase, so there is only a single positive side at a time. There is also a single negative side and (like the name of the alternator suggests), they alternate.

One of those wires (the primary brown) represents the entire coil. The yellow and pink are both secondaries that represent parts of the coil. When the brown is positive voltage, the pink and yellow are both negative. When the pink and yellow are positive, then the brown is negative.

To improve charging output, the yellow and pink should be spliced together so that the brown wire represents the entire coil and the pink and yellow together now represent the entire coil. If you were to splice the yellow or pink in with the brown, you would be reducing the charging output as the oppositely charged voltages would be working against one another. One caveat, though: Don't splice the pink and yellow without using a voltage regulator; the voltages may be too high for the level of current you're drawing some of the time.

This is why the yellow or pink wire is routed into the headlight switch in most Hondas. That portion of the stator coil only becomes active when you turn the headlight on. So when you're riding around with the headlight off, the alternator is only putting out 2/3 of it's capability. When you turn the headlight on (which effectively splices the yellow or pink wire back into the circuit), you pick up an extra 1/3 of charging capacity.

FWIW, Sonreir is not trying to sell you his regulator, but his regulator is a very good value and works exactly how you need. I recommend his over the Kohler clones sold out there. I have a Kohler Clone that I replaced with Sonreir's R/R. While both regulate the voltage, Sonreir's has less internal resistance, so the output voltage is a little higher at low RPM, and the regulator also regulates to a little less voltage (A good) thing. Sonreir's is much less likely to boil off the electrolyte. It's a good unit. The Kohler Clone was 15.1 volts max, while sonreir's is about 13.8-13.9. A better point for our small batteries and especially for the Ion chemistry batteries. Ion chemistry batteries do not like high charging voltages. The batteries often melt or burn when over charged.

ok. Will your box charge a sealed AGM or Li ion Sonreir?

While my family and I were christmas shopping, I noticed all of the battery chargers now say that they won't charge agm or gel. What do you charge them with?

Yes. My unit works with AGM and LI-ION, but it's not a standalone charger; it's part of the bike's electronics system.

Check out Battery Tenders by Deltran....

The Battery Tender Jr. (0.7 A charge Rate) is under $25 on Amazon.

Darn, It's lower than what I paid....

(I bolded and underlined)

-Perfect for all lead-acid, flooded or sealed maintenance free batteries (AGM and gel cell).
-Complete 4-step charging program (initialization, bulk charge, absorption mode and float mode).
-Automatically switches to float / maintenance voltage after fully charging the battery.
-If the battery voltage drops too far under load, full charger output power resumes.
-Solid state two color LED indicates stage of charger.
-Spark proof and reverse polarity protected.
12' output cord.
5 year warranty.

i understand Sonrier. I chose words poorly. I'll pick one up from you after the holidays die down. This time of year it's wise to keep a little cash on hand. Never know when you might need to buy Jack Daniels or be able to make bail. (going riding Friday).

thanks too, mydlyfkryzis

happy holidays guys!
