Hi all! I am attempting to turn my first bike, a 78 KZ650, into a cafe racer and I was told this was the place to go. This is all new to me so please excuxe me if I ask any really stupid questions. I bought the bike running and ridable for $100 but she is butt ugly so I decided to pretty her up. (Dont tell her i called her ugly shes quite sensitive.) Anyway I just figured Id introduce myself and let everyone know what Im riding.

Awesome! Glad to see I'm not the only KZ here, I've noticed old Honda's are way more popular so I would love to know what you do with yours. Acctually we have the same bike so it will be interesting to see where we both go with them.

Totally. From what I have heard and read, the KZ650 was one of the fastest if not thee fastest engine in it's time. I'm actually looking at another KZ650 one year older. But, definitately have plans to cafe out. I'm a new rider, so main focus this season is getting out and riding and gaining experience. Either way, I'll have two bikes to use to get into a cafe.

Thank everyone for the kind words. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I should do first to my girl so shes a "true" cafe. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. And you are right bikerpup the kz650 was directly competing with the 750s of the time and winning. My grandfather had one new off the floor in 77 and he said it scared him a little bit. Now mind you that was after riding big bore v-twins his whole life before that point. afterward he refused to stray from the inline 4.

Nice. One thing you can do is throw on clubman bars as well as seek out a cafe seat or build one yourself. There are a ton of threads regarding building a seat from fiberglass to metal. Ebay is another place to look as well for the seat. But, the main thing is, make it yours. :D
