KZ700 Backfire

Hello everyone. My 84 kz700 has an aweful backfire at high rpms. I am running pods, dynojet kit specifically for bike, mac exhaust with competition baffle. Needle is set on second clip down. Recently I had the head welded due to a broken exhaust stud that ripped a chunk out of head. A new stud has been installed. My backfire is occuring only at high rpms if I let off throttle quickly. Does not do this when I downshift. But does when upshifting at high rpm. My mac header is a piece of junk. The flanges they use bend easily and I feel as tho it does not seat properly in port. How can I test that there is an exhaust leak? I hear a slight ticking noise but barely noticeable. Open to any and all suggestions. Its driving me nuts!!!!! Also my float height is good.
