what, me worry?
hey guys....

just thought id ask, and maybe gloat. im looking at maybe buying a new bike next season, this purchase would be my third bike. ill be starting a new job next spring with a pretty good salary, so i figure i will splurge on a new toy... this is what i was thinking.... if you have any other ideas, shoot em my way.

The Ducati dealership near my shop just got in two of those. They keep telling me to bring my helmet and jacket and take one for a ride. I keep telling them no because i know that if I do I will end up selling half of what I own to get one. And the bad thing is that it would probably be worth it.

Honest opinion... even though Ducati's are pure sex, one of my good friend has a Duc and the maintenance and parts $uck. If it were me, I would buy a new Triumph Bonnie or Thruxton and trick it the hell out for what that Duc goes for. The new Triumphs have a GREAT aftermarket and they are awesome bikes... probably the only modern bikes I will ever consider purchasing for myself.

I just saw this Triumph on the weekend. Very nice:

Speed Tripple or Strret Tripple would be on my list ..... 8)

I also have a couple of friends w/ new retro Dookies, parts & maint. aside very nice bikes, but I too would go w/ a new Triumph, either the Thruxton or new Scrambler.

well, the price on the dukie would be around 13k. while the thruxton would be around 8k. thats a good 5 k to blow on well..... ANOTHER BIKE! how hard are the triumphs to take care of? btw, i love the black on black.... not to much fan of the seat though.... and im sure the insurance would be cheaper on the triumph.

that bike looks like a new version of this. i really like this one on ebay

As much as I love a Duc im more favor to the Triumph. It still has more of an old skool flare (compared to the duc). A guy down at the beach here in Jax has a sweet looking Triumph with the factory "cafe" vinyl on it (checkers), looks really sick.

i was at my local sportbike shop looking at the triumphs and they had these new crazy things.... a 125, could easily be made into a street tracker.... took one out this morning for a test run for kicks. but im adoment about getting a true classic or streetfighter.

still neat though, and it pulls wheelies pretty good, but its Korean and i dont trust the quality. i would like to stay European or Japanese.

I have to agree with the general sentiment... Ducks are very cool but, maintenance is more often quite costly compared to other choises!! :o

If you have multiple machines, and put the majority of miles (kilometers!) on the other bike(s), it might be a viable choise. I think that's the only way I could justify it!

As long as you 'jump' with your eyes wide open... that's the main thing!

My 2 cents! Have fun with whatever you decide! :-\ ;D

Hard to go wrong with either Triumph or Ducati, both make beautiful bikes. As far as the Ducati maintenance goes, just because you can make the payments on the bike doesn't mean you can afford it. The high initial buy-in added to the premium price of parts and service is what keeps them out of the hands of regular people (like me).
