Lowering Front End

Hey Guys, I want to lower the front end of my 1970 CB350. I can't just push the forks through the triple tree since my triple trees are capped. Is it bad to just cut a couple of rings off of my front springs, or do I have to also cut my fork tubes. Suggestions?

Did you ever figure out how to lower your bike? I have purchased the same bike for my wife to ride and it a little to tall for her. Would like to get it so she doesn't have to tip toe to touch the ground.
