Just picked up a 75 cb750 with a 79 DOHC engine in frame.

I dont know how the hell they managed to shove a DOHC in the frame, but i want to take it out. find an SOHC and shove that in.

How much would it run me to do this? Buying SOHC engine?

How much money would a DOHC engine fetch?

Is this a major screw up on my part to buy this??

Im getting a little worried.

Well... Why do you want to get rid of the DOHC motor? If its mounted in there correctly, its a perfectly good engine.

I dont believe it is mounted in correctly. It looks a bit awkwardly wedged in.

It also appears to be much to large for the frame.

try this link. Im not 100% certain if its off.

From the side view it looks fine, but from a vertical, sitting on bike view. It looks and feels a bit too large for the frame.

The DOHC and SOHC motors arent that much different in size. I dont know the 750s anywhere near as well as many here though. Change the title of the thread to something that references your problem specifically and you'll get more help.

A little bit of research on tentative purchases goes a long way....for future purchases that is...

The DOHC engine's had valve cover clearance issues in SOHC frames unless some extensive mod' was done to the frame mounts. There's a reason the bottom right side of the DOHC frame is bolted in. You need to remove it to get that big lump out! HA! On the issue of selling it and shoving a correct engine in there, you could probably sell the DOHC and buy a SOHC engine and break even, or even come out a few bucks ahead if you have the right buyer. Price wise, I'd say 300-500 for a complete SOHC engine in decent shape. If it's in good shape, maybe a couple hundred more. But the DOHC's go for more than the SOHC's, so you should be able to come out ahead in the end.

^ really? thats seems off to me. But i was thinking that a DOHC bike in the same shape as a SOHC bike is always a much cheaper bike. atleast where i am. Odd to think that the parts would be worth more. but stranger things have happened in the motorcycle world

Its a SOHC 750, with a CB450 TANK, that's probably why it looks funny, whats the number on the ENGINE right behind the cylinders and what does the VIN start with?

MOAR pictures would help, looks pretty damn cool if you ask me. ;D

This is what a DOHC looks like

It looks like a CB750 tank to me, but the seat is HUUUUUUGE throwing the whole thing off kilter.

BTW - put [ IMG ] before and [ /IMG ] after the links to the pics (remove the spaces in the brackets) and this happens:

Ok i'm confused, where is the dohc??? Is the sohc above meant to be the problem bike?

Move along folks. Nothing to see here. It's just a slightly stripped down SOHC Honda 750 with the correct engine in it.
