Making your own motorcycle collars?

Hey gents. I swapped an exhaust that fit my CB500 (since it was made for the bike) to a different setup from a Suzuki Hayabusa. I was wondering how hard it might be to make the collars, not the part that you are physically screwing them down with, but the little "spacers" that make it a tight fit. The set I cut up was from something else and never came with them, so I was thinking I could take a piece of pipe/tube and cut it in half and work it out that way. If anyone has a better way, I'm all ears! 8) I'll be attempting my solution today...haha

Here's a picture of them roughed in place. Thanks in advance gents.

Why not just reuse the originals?
If the pipes too big you could probably bend them a bit to get them to fit.

The set I destroyed (were rusted and worthless) didn't have any to begin with. The other set that was on the bike (in "ok" condition) the collars don't fit this set, and I would like to keep them anyways if I sell that set to put some more money into this bike.

The only issue I see making your own is getting that "lip" on there to hold. Maybe it doesn't need it if you use a thick walled pipe?

Yeah, I thought if I had weld up the end of a larger pipe in a "bullet" shape, and just barely split the pipe I want to use for the collars then hit it with big hammers....I could "flare" it out a little before doing the full cut. Eh? ???

Hell Anything is possible :D

If it were me I'd find a pipe with the ID the same as the OD of the pipe your using, then cut a small section (1/4 inch maybe?) and weld that on to the end of your collar pipe. Then cut it down the middle and there you have it.

Good Idea. I thought worst-case, I could just weld a bunch of bead on the top. Sand it flat, and the "blobs" sticking out would hold it in place haha. Your way sounds more clean though!

Give it a go man and post up the results, worst case scenario you ruin like 1 ft of tube.

Yep! Waiting for them to cool from welding. Fit one collar, and I think it will do the trick! Made the other 3 and have to wait for the cooling, then I'll post up some pics. Seemed to work well. A little ugly, but who the hell cares, you can't really see them anyways!

That was fast.
Awesome.
Toss them in the toilet to cool thats what I do :D

Nice! haha. I just walked away, had something to drink, and posted here ;D

Here they are in all of their ugliness. Actually they aren't half bad!

Here's a pic of them on. Thanks for the banter back and forth SonicJK. I only get an hour here and there to work on MY bike, thanks for the ideas/comments.
