Me and my bike

Been Around the Block
So hello everyone. I've been admiring the bikes on here for some time and figured I might as well join. I'm in the Spokane, WA area.

I've been riding some motor powered two wheeled contraption since I was 9, 26 now. My first street machine was a 91 EX500 that got overhauled and had some ugly removed. The modification bug had me then.

This is my 8th bike, and possibly my favorite, even compared against the new ZX6R I bought in 07. Ferraris are nice, but sometimes its more fun to cruise in an old Mustang.

This is the bike I'm working on right now, a 82 KZ750 twin. I don't know what style it's classified as at this point but I like it and it's mine so the name doesn't matter. My initial inspiration was the Deus V-Twin Cafe Racer. The parts still to find their way on to it is USD forks with radial calipers and radial master. Keeping the wire wheels and chrome just to be obstinate.

Welcome! That's a nice lookin bike! Good platform to start on. What are your plans for it?

Nothing crazy right now, just tidy up the solo seat conversion, get the USD front on, chop up the exhaust, paint and polish and ride the thing.

I figured since the stock forks needed a rebuild and the pitiful stock single disc in front couldn't reliably stop me, I might as well spend a little more and upgrade. That kinda thinking can be trouble though. When my 4x4's timing chain when bad, I justified swapping a diesel into it based off the repair costs. So far the diesel conversion has cost many times over what the repair would have, and I expect this to get rather pricey once I have adapters machined to bolt my ZX7 rotors to the hub.

Yeah, whatever your budget is for this project, triple it. If there is money to be spent, it somehow makes its way into your bike. Amazing how that happens...

As far as those adapters go, I'd love to see some pictures of the machined bits. That's a pretty tough mod making sure that the caliper and hub mount straight. Also, if you have any more pictures of the bike, throw up here! One side shot just ain't enough.

Only triple it? Shoot, I was figuring on just dumping everything I have into and hope that's enough. :o

I'll post up the adapters when they are done, but for right now I don't even have measurements, still waiting on my triple clamps to show up.

Until I get a build thread, here's my thread on KZr, with lots of pics. What subforum should it go in here? I'm not sure what to label it.

Haha alright then you know how building works!

Yeah, if you can post those, that'd be awesome. I'd love to make my XJ a double disc as well, just not sure how to go about it. What are you doing with your triple clamps. Getting new ones, or just having powdered or something.

Here is the subforum that you'll wanna post your build in. I linked you to the Cafe section of the sub-forum, but you can jump to whatever section you feel most fits your bike. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0

Yeah I'm not sure what style it fits best as. There's elements of many genres. I'm just chopping bits off and pasting bits on as I go. A Bobratrackfe if you will. "Specials" it is then...

The triples are from a ZX636 to fit the ZX1000 forks. Still waiting on a slow ebay shipper is all. Then I can slip my forks in and measure. At first I only wanted to put dual discs on my stock front end but one fork doesn't have mounts for a caliper. For the price of getting another set of 36mm forks set up for dual discs and probably rebuilding them, I figured might as well go all out then. The USDs have 500 miles on them so basically brand new. Into the the front end about $300 right now plus whatever the adapters cost.

I like that. You should call it "Frankenstein". Green, grey, and black as a paint scheme. Yeahh man!! That could look good!

Ohh ok. Yeah, I'm looking into a new front end for my XJ. Wanting to do a Cafe/fighter. Thinking about a Ducati front end if it's possible, but who knows. Might not even fit. All just dreams right now. What made you choose the ZX to pull from?

Price and familiarity mostly. I was a Ninja guy before this.

It is a Frankenbike, so far I've got parts from 9 different makes/models. CBR, HD, KZ, Ninja, etc. It's amazing what can interchange.

Started a build thread, link in sig.
