Melting CB360 - CB450/500 ?

Hello,

I was wondering if cylinders from CB450/500T would fit some CB360 crankcases. Did somebody try it ?

Thanks in advance. ;)

Really?

At least you remained in the brand....

The only thing a CB360 and 450/500 Engines have in common is that they have 2 cylinders, and 2 coils. Stroke/bore/cylinder spacing are completely different.

The CB350 and 360 Engines aren't even interchangeable.

The 540 motor used a CB450 crank but required quite a lot of machining
Don't remember if center section was shortened (and can't be bothered to search through thread to find the info)
Block was 360 bored to 69 or 70mm?

Yep, thank to Cyclhed's father, we know yet that with variable adaptation, including changing the 360 crank by a 500 one, you can "easily" increase the stroke from 50,6mm to 64,8mm. According to him (or at least, what my perfectible understanding of english may allow me), he kept the 360 cylinders which bore came to 72,5mm using sleeves and pistons from a Kawasaki Z1100.

This is a project monster motor that my father is building. Here are the details:
360 case bored to accept CB500 Twin crank 64.8mm stroke, the 360 case was bored to accept the center main bearings, also
clearance for rods and flywheels to swing.
Cylinder block sleeved with KZ1100 sleeves with 72.5mm bore
KZ1100 pistons 72.5mm
3/8" cylinder spacer to get to 0 deck
KZ1000 30T cam sprocket to match crank
Stock head with 2mm oversize titanium intake valves
Intake ports raised 1/2" by welding
Exhaust seats bored 1mm but with stock valves

My question is if you can put 450/500 cylinders (same bore but longer stroke on the 500) on the 360 case, especially if studs have same spacing on both cylinder blocks. If yes, maybe it could allow putting 74mm pistons or more... :D

What do you mean with "center section shortened" ? Crank shortened in the middle then rebuilt ? I guess he didn't do anything but lighten the 500 crank to make it weigh the same as the 360 (page 1 or 2 of the thread).

Thanks for answering. I hope I don't hurt your language too much. ;)

The studs are in different places on 450/500T so you have to bore stock block then fit new liners
I think the max is 76mm, I did one several years ago for someone.
I'll get my 74/75mm done sometime, using GS500 liners and pistons but you only get 422cc without crank swap
