So I should buy new carbs if I want to install K&N type filters? I think that might be a project too complex for me. I mean at least the stock Mikunis I have now are proven to work with the motorcycle they came with.

S T O P . This thread is seriously all over the map. We have 650 twin carbs being recommended and no recognition of the difference in flow between BS(CV) carbs and VM (Slide) carbs.
GT750 Suzuki is fitted with BS40 carbs which have a 40mm outlet, so that's easy. They are 40mm. Right? Wrong. They flow the same as a 32mm VM carb. So 40mm CV = 32mm Slide. That's not a universal conversion factor, just one example to keep in mind.
Back in the day, people did fit some pretty large VM Mikunis to those motors when they were hopped up with big bore kits, ported heads and hot cams. Stock, not so much.
Manas has two price effective options here- assuming his carbs are in good condition. Try to find an airbox on ebay etc of fit K&N pods and jet up a couple of sizes on the main jets to get started. Cheap pods will not work and even UNI filters may have to be modified to clear the ports. K&N are usually pretty good though - but check them.
If teh crabs are all worn out and damaged, that's another story. In that case get a set of Mk2s which are very different and fit pods.

Haha. I totally imagined that as Teazer just bursting into a room and just yelling "STOP I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE JESUS CHRIST".
Anyways, I think you're right Teazer. I'll go with what I have now and tinker with it. If it doesn't work out thats OK...at least I'll learn something. Eventually just go back to the air box if I have to. Although I'd like to avoid it because I was hoping to clear out that portion of the bike and put mostly everything under the seat.

Here's the dreaded question for you guys (I avoided creating a new thread out of fear) but how much should I pay for these Mikuni Mark IIs?
I intend to keep and use my Mikuni Mark I's for the XS750 mainly because I've already spent hours studying its workings and researching its pros and cons and also because I've order about $90 of rebuild parts for it.
At some point in the future I'd like to fit the Mark II on it. He's asking for $150 which I think is not right especially when Triumph triple carbs can be had for the same price: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.ca/viewitem?itemId=321093786108&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=31543178156
