So far it's looking good.

Was the fork swap direct, as in old one out, new one bolts straight in, or did you have to do some machining/replace bearings? Lots of people seem to do this swap but seem a little secretive about the details, for some reason. I will be starting my own build soon and want to do a fork swap, but it will not be straightforward, so I am trying to gather as much knowledge and information prior to planning this.

This swap, in may case, was direct. The fork is a not an easy to find Paoli, OEM fork in Yamaha SZR660.
Normally is quite easy to check in advance if the swap is going to be direct or you will need some tricks. You even don't need to disassemble anything to be 99% sure.

- Check bearing refference for your bike. Once you have got the refference is very easy to know the bearing dimensions.
- Messure the length of the headset in your frame
- Compare these data with the donor bike and its fork that you intend to swap in

Internet is a very useful data base to find out any nedded reference info, so use it before buying and you will save some time and money.

In some cases, and depending on the project you might need a custom steering tube pressed in the lower tree or even a complete custom set up to assemble your wished fork, basically anything is possible, but it will always depend on your skills and/or wish to spend money for third parties fixing it for you. But one thing you will always need, and is a clear idea of your intentions. This forum is a very good tool to be used as a virtual brainstorm when plannimg for your project.

Have fun!!
