moreals, ethics, and molestation

I'm new to the vintage bike "scene," if you will, however i have been around motorbikes all my life. I'm really big into Volkswagens, and there are some general rules about that you need to follow. Well i'm not so sure about any of them. For example, i thought it would be really cool to put a triumph 750, into my CB350......however, i'm not sure if that would be a molestation travesty. I feel like that would be along the lines of someone swapping a VW 1.8T into a honda civic.....which just wouldn't be alright. some feedback would be great!

Wait, you want to take a leaky Triumph Engine out of a good handling motorcycle frame, remove a leak free motorcycle engine from a so-so frame, and create a motorcycle that has a leaky engine that handles poorly?

I think we need a new category, IE: Morals, Ethics, Molestation, and Insanity.

Now let's say a Honda 750 engine in a Triumph frame might be a more sensible Frankenstein. Reliable and good handling..

Now putting a Haybusa Engine in a SmartCar, that's just Fun waiting to happen.....

I think some mash-ups have potential, others are just, well, not so well thought out...

I am trying to figure out how to stick my extra gl1100 engine into my super beetle. Anything can be done, but make sure that the final product is better than what you started with.

ahahha well, i have a CB350, and want more power......so i also have a triumph 750 engine sitting around, with a full gasket kit, so..

It would take a lot of cutting and pasting to shoehorn that 750 into the little 350 frame that wasn't designed and built for all that extra torque and vibration. More trouble than it's worth.

So get a frame for the Trumpet and have some fun. Or sell both and buy something else. Lots of options

Surely somebody's got an eff'd up Norton Atlas, with a featherbed frame to donate? Less hassle, waaay cooler product.

All these fine gents are saying is that based on sheer logistics, it ain't happening. Even if you could get that Trumpet to fit that just isn't made for anything the 750 will give it.

Like Teazer said, get a different frame. You have the Honda to ride, so give a clean sheet, ground up build a swing. Could come up with something pretty bad ass.

To answer the underlying issue of 'rules' or 'etiquette', I'd suggest the only rules are that form should follow function. The engineering needs to be sound.

Nobody (well, almost nobody) is going to complain about you putting the 'wrong' engine in the 'wrong' frame unless it just doesn't make logical sense, like what you've heard. Putting an engine with 2x the displacement into an old Honda frame which was engineered for way less power doesn't make sense, especially when larger frames are a dime a dozen.

What triumph motor is it? Year?
