My '65 Velocette resto

I have had this 1965 Venom Clubman since 1969 and after having it stored away for many years whilst family and kids came along I decided it was about time to start riding it again. After a slow resto over the past 4-5 years it is finally back on the road. :)

Thanks for the comments guys, I am still running it in but it gets better each time I take it out, having it stored away for so long I had forgotten how much fun it was!

I really enjoy checking out some of the nice cafe specials that are displayed on this site. Some great craftmanship and innovation. Also owning an old BM airhead R60/5 I particularly liked the R80 of buckeyebike!

That is the stuff my dreams are made of!
Always had a soft spot for the Venom but doubt I will ever see one in the flesh, let alone have one of my very own.
You Sir, are a lucky, lucky, man.

Nice bike. Love the Tickle 2LS brake and that sweet reversed gearshift lever. Friend on mine used to race a Thruxton years ago in the UK. Used to ride with a guy with one of those when I was at Uni a lfetime or two ago.

Velo people are not like normal people for some reason - at least that's my experience. They appear to like things that are outside of the mainstream.

And it has a Fishtail silencer. Very nice.

Wasn't that type of silencer called a, raygun..?

Good question. Rayguns are the pipes on early Triumph T150 and BSA Rocket 3s with three small pipes out of each oval muffler. The Velo had what is generally known as a Fishtail and IIRC that was the name of their club/magazine/journal back in the day.

Both odd ball designs are generally accepted as the best design for their respective bikes.

After seeing some of the great creations on this site your compliments are much appreciated. I didn't need much creativity with my bike as it was all done in the Velo factory many years ago.

It left the factory as a Venom Veeline Clubman and was fitted with a fairing which unfortunately I don't have. It was also fitted with the usual Clubman bits such as Dunlop alloy rims, Lucas Comp magneto, rearsets as well as the Tickle front brake and a GP carb. Since putting it back on the road I have added a Mikuni conversion (sacrilege I Know!) but it idles and is much easier to start. I was able to pick up a neat velocity stack for the Mikuni from Dime City which I think tidies it up a bit. The GP will go back on one day when it is refurbed and the bike is run in.

Teazer, I always thought of myself as a fairly normal, well adjusted sort of 65yo, but after reading your comments I am having second thoughts!

Buckeyebike, after seeing the Triton you took to Mid Ohio, I really like your taste in machinery, it looks brilliant and must be very nice to ride

I have added a couple of extra pics of the bike and one with a friends bike which I feel has more cred on this site than mine. It is his interpretation of a modern Velo cafe racer, he made the frame himself as well as the exhaust and muffler. The tank is a modified alloy Ducati tank and the Velo motor has been enlarged to 600 with a BMW Nikasil barrel grafted on, as well as a belt drive conversion and electric start. It is fitted with a large flat slide carb and really hauls when you open it up!
