Hey Guys,
I come bearing advice once again.
I'm putting a new clutch cable on the 1974 CL360. I have the Clymer manual and after doing it's step i can't get the clutch to engage. So I guess I'll tell you what I'm doing first and hopefully someone sees what i'm doing wrong.
I should also note the bike shifts through all the gears without the clutch engaged. I've never even tried doing this on a motorcycle or a car but i'm guessing it can't be good. But i can literally go from 1st to 5th without the clutch engaged and neutral spins the wheel nice and free. ***So i'm basing all of this off of the fact that when i have it in first and i pull the clutch lever in the wheel still does not spin freely. ***
Step 1- loosen the cable as much as possible at the lever
Step 2- Adjust the screw at the top case cover all the way in so that it is as loose as possible.
Step 3- Loosen the adjuster screw on the side of the case cover fully clockwise.
Step 4- Put the crank case cover back onto the bike.
Step 5- Turn the adjuster screw on the side of the crank case until i feel a little resistance
Step 6- 1/4 turn back
Step 7- Tighten the lock nut on the side of the crank case
Step 8- Tighten the cable back on the top of the crank case until it has .4-.8 in. "free play"
At this point i pull the clutch in and the damn wheel still won't disengage out of first gear (so the clutch isn't engaging)
If none of this makes sense i will go back to square 1 and i'll record a video, edit it down for you guys so you don't have to sit through the whole thing and post it tomorrow.
any advice is much appreciated. the clutch "rod" was never full taken out of the bike. i'm simply reassembling. the bottom of the engine wasn't even taken apart.
