Hello All,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Gene form Portland Oregon and I am the proud new owner of a ’78 XS650 that I will be working on as my next Cafe project. I am sure I will annoying you all with my questions and prodding. I wish I would have had a resource like this when I restored my first project a 1967 Honda CB450 Black Bomber!

Besides my Yamaha I have a ’08 Ducati Sport 1000s which I love. Over the years I have owned a ’67 Honda CB450, ’79 BMW R65, ’91 Yamaha FXR600, ’74 BMW R90/6, the Duc and now the XS. I loved riding and working on every damn one of 'em!

Ride safe!

Gene

The XS650 is the best place to start for a project like this in my opinion. Lot's of parts available for that bike and it has the right look for a caff bike. Wish my XS500 was a 650. Head over to mikesxs.com if you haven't already, tons of parts over there.

I am building a 650 cafe also. Mine is a 73 TX650. I've also got a 750 tank like yours is running. It is currently out for powdercoating! Easy to mount, and looks more cafe like than the original tank! MikesXS is definately a great source of parts

Welcome!!! both myself and SausageMahoney are in the Portland area as well so look us up come spring for some riding!

Thanks Valvesprung... it's OK, I hate myself as well ;D

MN_TX650, you bike looks good. Keep me posted on your progress, I'd like to see the tank when it's powdercoated!

Hey Gene, I'm in P-town as well. Which Yamaha 750 is that tank off? I like the length and what looks to be slab sides. Is what appears to be the "panel" area flat? Or is that just an opticular illusion from the pin striping?

Hello Nate,

The Tank is from a '78 XS750. The panels are flat and tapered from the head of the tank... if that makes sense? Eventually, the tank will be powder coated black. I can't wait to do more work on the bike!!

What are you riding?

Take it easy!

Gene

Just to add that the tank is from an XS750 Standard. The XS750 Special does not any knee dents/panels in it.
